'Not separated, free from its opposing aspects,' indicates the recognition of the five fruits such as maturation. As it says: 'Even if negligent, its causes, will not change even if inexhaustible.' This indicates the recognition of the signs of their arising. Regarding the distinction of abandoning which opposing aspects, it is also said in the same scripture: 'Bodhisattvas with malice, and possessed by desire and attachment.' And: 'These faults, in love and so on, do not arise when well-established; non-afflicted beings, for the sake of benefit, do not abandon samsara.' Secondly, the four ways of maturing sentient beings through the four objects of gathering are: abiding in accordance with the meaning and vowing to mature sentient beings; maturing them through the practice of meaning; maturing them through pleasant speech; and vowing to mature them through generosity. The first is: Bodhisattvas realize their own ten powers, six superknowledges, four analytical understandings, four types of dharani (words, etc.), and three doors of liberation (emptiness, etc.), and abide in them. May I be able to perform all the deeds that benefit all sentient beings in the world at all times, all at once. This is called 'meaning accordance'. The Ornament of Realization says: 'Giving, etc., he shows, acceptance and entry, pleasant speech and beneficial conduct, and is considered to be in accordance with meaning.' Because abiding in the dharma that places others, it is explained that it is named 'meaning accordance'. Secondly, beneficial conduct is divided into two: placing others in the Dharma of the Buddha and placing others in worldly dharma and the place of knowledge. The first is: In the realm where the sound 'Buddha' has never been heard, like a Chakravartin king, or through various methods such as the twelve deeds, in accordance with the deeds of the Buddha, may I place sentient beings on the path of higher realms and definite goodness. The second is: Whenever the sun of the perfectly complete Buddha, the master of the three realms, has not yet risen in this world, until then, may the Bodhisattva I, like the sun, dispel all the darkness of the world by showing the path of higher realms through craftsmanship, medicine, grammar, logic, and inner knowledge. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These are called 'Meaningful Conduct' because the six perfections, such as generosity, enable other beings to correctly receive the Dharma and are named accordingly. The meaning of the preceding and following verses is also shown in this way. The sacred Dharma of the Three Vehicles (Sanskrit: Triyāna, referring to the Śrāvakayāna, Pratyekabuddhayāna, and Bodhisattvayāna) will not appear until the Buddha has come. In areas where the name of the Three Jewels (Sanskrit: Triratna, referring to the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha) has not been heard, it is not contradictory for the Buddha or the holders of his teachings to proclaim the sacred Dharma. Third, the commitment to ripen others with pleasing words: The Bodhisattva promises to subdue those beings who have been abandoned by countless Sugatas (Sanskrit: Sugata, one of the ten epithets of the Tathagata, meaning 'Well-Gone') and defiled by sins, by relying on the words of his own teachings of the sacred Dharma. The term 'ཡི་དྭགས་' (Tibetan, hungry ghost) that appears here is a misspelling. For example, in an age when the Five Degenerations (Sanskrit: Pañcakaṣāya, referring to the degeneration of the age, views, afflictions, beings, and lifespan) are prevalent, it is very rare for a Bodhisattva to generate Bodhicitta, just as a Brahmin would count the sands of the Ganges. Fourth, the commitment to ripen sentient beings through generosity is divided into three categories: the commitment to ripen sentient beings through the generosity of Dharma, the generosity of fearlessness, and the generosity of material things. First, the Bodhisattva promises that he will serve and respect all beings in the world with a sincere heart, as if they were relatives; benefit them with a loving attitude, as if they were friends; help them selflessly with compassion, as if they were mothers; and teach them temporary and ultimate benefits, as if they were fathers. Second, the Bodhisattva promises that merely hearing his name will immediately save all beings threatened by fear from the eight and sixteen fears, etc. Not only the fears of this life, but also liberate them from all the sufferings of the three realms (Sanskrit: Tridhātu, referring to the Desire Realm, Form Realm, and Formless Realm). Third, to those who suffer from countless poverty, the Bodhisattva promises that he will be a great treasure vase, providing each patient with medicine suitable for them, and providing a continuous pool of nectar for the assembly of hungry ghosts. As it is said in the Noble Avalokiteśvara Sutra: 'The stream of milk flowing from Avalokiteśvara's hand satisfies the hungry ghosts and makes them cool forever after bathing.' སེམས་ (Tibetan, mind; Sanskrit: citta, Romanized Sanskrit: citta, literal meaning: mind) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- a
