May I excel to the highest peak in the fields of knowledge (Sanskrit: Vidyāsthāna), such as phonetics, poetry, and so on, and in the assemblies of the ocean of arts! Regarding the categories of crafts and arts, it is stated in the *Distinguishing Treatise* as follows: art, writing, arithmetic, numbers, calculation, posture, scattering, gait, methods of using hooks, swordsmanship, throwing ropes, methods of throwing large arrows, turning the throwing master forward, turning backward, jumping, the posture of giants, running, swimming, crossing, riding elephants, riding horses, and so on. Furthermore, the worldly treatises also explain the eighteen fields of knowledge, including: grammar, medicine, religion, music, erotic techniques, astrology, astronomy, magic, and ancient stories, etc. Second, may I understand the meaning of all beings' speech, master all worldly knowledge, and be skilled in teaching others. This is the wisdom of understanding the conventional, and being proficient in this will not lead to confusion in methods, because it transforms into an accumulation of merit, therefore it is called minor transcendental wisdom. Alternatively, this verse, as it appears in the *Glorious Arm Question Sutra*: 'the language of the gods, the language of the nāgas, the language of the yakshas,' etc., is about the wisdom of understanding language. The following two lines are about explaining the wisdom of understanding meaning. This also corresponds to the terms 'understanding the Dharma' and 'understanding the meaning' that appear in the *Ornament of the Sutras*, and also corresponds to 'discriminating words' and 'discriminating meaning' in the four discriminations. Third, with regard to the Buddha's teachings, may I obtain the wisdom of using all the words and meanings, which is unblemished because it is not mixed with perversion; it is sharp because it enters without obstruction; it is immeasurable because it is not merely temporary. Second, the commitment to teach others is divided into two: the commitment to teach the profound Dharma and the commitment to teach the vast Dharma. First, the word 'furthermore' indicates sequence, such as 'eat after bathing.' That is to say, for sentient beings, I will distribute the extremely profound and wise Dharma of the Great and Small Vehicles in a way that is appropriate to their respective capacities. This is also as stated in the *Ornament of the Sutras*: 'understanding the meaning.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

即十力(梵文:bala,藏文:stobs bcu,英文:Ten Powers of a Buddha)的果位。

It is in accordance with 'the words and expressions that explain the meaning are pure.' Second, I will thoroughly explain the Buddha's teachings to all sentient beings who have not yet fully realized them. Through what means? Through many ways of correct meaning and definitive meaning. How to explain? As clear and unmistakable as words engraved in the heart. Here, 'thorough' does not refer to all collections of words, but to the completeness of method and wisdom. Therefore, the Hinayana scriptures cannot be called thorough in meaning, as the Ratnagotravibhāga states: 'Incomplete, contradictory, and not showing the means, therefore, the Śrāvakayāna is not called Mahāyāna Dharma.' The second part is also divided into two parts as before. The first part, as the Ratnagotravibhāga states: 'Correctly distinguishing the knowable, relying on samādhi, completely liberating from afflictions, wisdom is the best life, is the best of all dharmas, all three are possessed, the wise should realize it as such.' Here, the 'three' refers to the three types: mundane, Hinayana transcendence, and Mahayana transcendence, which are explained in the commentary. Its meaning is: the first is to understand the mundane, and the latter two are to understand the ultimate truth. Among them, the first is to understand the knowledge of outsiders and common fields of knowledge, and the second is to understand the profound and vast dharmas that are solely based on the Buddha's teachings. When explaining in this way, slightly reverse the order of the previously explained scriptures, and first explain the last two lines of the first verse. The second part, such as 'wisdom is the foundation and basis,' is the same as before. Seventh, Vow to Accomplish the Skillful Means Pāramitā The seventh is the vow to accomplish the Skillful Means Pāramitā: I will attain the state through accomplishing the practice of skillful means. What state? That is, the state of the Ten Powers. What is this state like? It is the result of the aspiration to completely benefit others, along with its fruits. What is the cause of skillful means like? It is the method of bringing about the fruit of completely fulfilling the benefit of beings. When will this fruit arise? At the time of ascending to the state of the Ten Powers. Here, the essence of skillful means is: knowing the time and non-time to manifest the true ultimate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
