Furthermore, it is not valid to negate the fault with the reason of 'not remembering having taken the vows'. This discipline is not abandoned by transferring to another lifetime. If, at that time, one does not remember having taken it in a previous lifetime, the opponent of the aspiration mind may manifest. At that time, as it is said: 'For a Bodhisattva, this is the heaviest of downfalls. Its bad migrations are endless.' Because that fault exists, one must also make aspirations to remember the birth in which one previously generated the mind of enlightenment, as it is said: 'May I remember my births in all migrations.' Secondly, there are four aspects: relying on virtuous spiritual friends, listening to the sacred Dharma, aspiring to be free from the faults of physical endowments, and aspiring to be free from the faults of mental endowments. The first is: May I not be separated from whom? From virtuous spiritual friends, seeing both the supreme form of the Sage, the best of the Shakyas, and the various forms of Bodhisattvas. For how long? For as long as I have not attained the state of the Sugata. What is it like? It is the basis of all perfections, benefits, and happiness. Relying on spiritual friends is the main practice of Bodhisattvas, as it is said in the 'Friendly Epistle': 'Relying on virtuous spiritual friends is pure conduct. The Fully Enlightened One has said that it is completely fulfilling. Therefore, one should rely on holy beings. Having relied on them, many have attained peace.' The second is: May I increase and expand in all the grounds of the Buddhas' sons. By what cause? By the cause of those virtuous spiritual friends tirelessly showing the path of beneficial conduct to others. Those meanings are also as it appears in the 'Ornament of the Sutras': 'Thus, having generated great faith in the Bhagavan, constantly offering with great wealth and reverence, always relying on a beneficial friend who possesses many qualities, one will obtain compassion for beings and all accomplishments.' Therefore, relying on spiritual friends and listening to the sacred Dharma in accordance with the Dharma are the main causes of not forgetting the mind of enlightenment. As it is said in the 'Compendium of Trainings': 'If one does not abandon virtuous spiritual friends and does not uphold the sacred Dharma, it will not be protected, it will not be purified, and it will not increase. Therefore, one will not become a Bodhisattva. It is certain.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One should completely uphold the sacred Dharma. As it is said: 'May I always meet with those who excellently demonstrate good conduct.' And 'Holding the sacred Dharma of the Buddhas.' (Three) In all lifetimes, may my body's limbs and parts be complete, and may the body be beautiful without defects. One must make such aspirations, otherwise, other sentient beings will become a cause for anger. Merely having a good appearance is also present in lower castes. May I be transformed into a noble lineage endowed with a collection of qualities worthy of praise by all people, for lower castes do not become a place of reverence for all. Moreover, may I remember all previous lifetimes, for if I do not remember them, I will not know if I have properly taken vows in previous lifetimes, and therefore there is the fault of becoming defiled. Having Bodhicitta, the fulfillment of making such aspirations is also certain. As it is said: 'One will become endowed with wisdom, form, marks, lineage, and complexion.' In the Treasury of Knowledge: 'When identifying a Bodhisattva who is definitely abiding, that one is of high lineage, has complete faculties, is born as a male, and cannot be turned back from remembering past lives.' (Four) Abandoning benefiting others through actions and focusing on one's own benefit through thoughts, with a mind moved by great compassion, may I be able to guide all beings by engaging solely in benefiting others through actions. The reason for abandoning inferior thoughts and actions is that such thoughts and actions are inferior after generating Bodhicitta, and the example of knowledge is that they are like poison, harming both oneself and others. As it is also said in the Mother Sutra: 'Even if one practices the ten virtuous paths for hundreds of thousands of kalpas, if one desires to attain the state of a Pratyekabuddha or a Shravaka, then that is a fault of discipline, a deterioration of discipline. That Bodhicitta is even heavier than a Parajika offense.' These four verses just explained are the cause for generating Bodhicitta that has not yet arisen, and the condition for not losing Bodhicitta that has already arisen, and are called the four great wheels. What are the four? In the 'Friendly Epistle' it says: 'Dwelling in a conducive place, relying on holy individuals, making pure aspirations, and having accumulated merit in the past, you possess the four great wheels.' How are these explained by these? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
