How is it done? The ultimate goal is the bliss of Nirvana (Tibetan: མྱང་འདས།, Sanskrit: निर्वाण, Romanized Sanskrit: nirvana, Literal meaning: extinction), the perfect peace, and in the meantime, enjoying the nectar of mindfulness. As it is said in 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life': 'Today, in the presence of all protectors, I invite the Sugata (Tibetan: བདེ་གཤེགས།, Sanskrit: सुगत, Romanized Sanskrit: sugata, Literal meaning: gone to bliss) and those who bring happiness as guests, may gods and non-gods rejoice.' Furthermore, the sutra says: 'Mindfulness is nectar, carelessness is the place of death.' Here, placing others in happiness and taking on the suffering of others as mentioned earlier, how do these two relate when accumulating merit? Because these are the actual practices of entering the Bodhisattva's mind, and this is the preliminary stage of aspiring Bodhicitta, the stage of accumulating merit. Isn't that so? It is not so. The practice of entering the Bodhisattva's path is to actually liberate others from suffering and actually place them in happiness. Here, it is merely aspiring for that. The meaning established by such an explanation is that taking refuge in the Three Jewels is generating faith like a mother. As it is said in the 'Tathāgatagarbha Sūtra': 'Having faith in the Buddha and the Buddha's teachings, having faith in the conduct of the Buddha's children, having faith in unsurpassed enlightenment, thus the minds of great beings arise. Faith is like a mother leading the way, protecting and increasing all qualities.' Therefore, upon the faith that is like fertile ground, planting the seeds of virtue that are without attachment, without hatred, and without ignorance, which are offering, confessing sins, and rejoicing. Offering is related to non-attachment, confessing sins is related to non-ignorance, and rejoicing is related to non-hatred; they must be directed to the root of virtue. This is because stinginess hinders the motivation for offering, ignorance is the motivation for all sins, and jealousy hinders rejoicing. Therefore, these three aspects of offering and so on, necessarily depend on the three roots of virtue. Moreover, these three, offering and so on, are in accordance with generosity, ethics, and patience. Similarly, urging the Buddhas to remain, turn the wheel of Dharma, and not pass into Nirvana, these three abide in the three roots of one's own virtue. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore, there are three roots of virtue to be applied to it, namely, the limbs that are in accordance with diligence, meditation, and wisdom. These three fruits are in accordance with these three causes, without confusion in going and returning. Moreover, not transcending suffering requires combining meditation with cause and effect, for the power to control the taking and abandoning of lives comes from that. Dedication of that accumulation to great enlightenment. Secondly, generating the great Bodhicitta (བྱང་ཆུབ་ཆེན་པོར་སེམས་བསྐྱེད་པ་, byang chub chen por sems skyed pa, Great Bodhi Mind): is dedication. Where to? To perfect Bodhi. What? As shown above, all the virtues of confessing sins, etc. Does that alone become the aspiration of generating the mind? No, it is not. Although even just making the aspiration once becomes the mind of aspiration, to become a vow, it is necessary to first abandon what is to be abandoned and to promise to learn what is to be learned. How is that? As it appears in the context of 'How did the previous Sugatas (བདེ་གཤེགས་, bde gshegs, Gone to Bliss)' in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara (སྤྱོད་འཇུག་, spyod 'jug, Engaging in Bodhisattva Behavior), and in the Sikshasamuccaya (བསླབ་བཏུས་, bslab btus, Compendium of Trainings), 'How did the noble Manjushri (འཇམ་དཔལ་, 'jam dpal, Gentle Glory) generate the mind for enlightenment with conduct, in the same way, I will generate the mind.' It is said that taking it through the door of reciting three times is indeed taking the vow. In that way, after sending the seven limbs first, this taking of the vow of aspiration is the tradition of the Madhyamaka (དབུ་མ་, dbu ma, Middle Way) treatises, because the Mind-Only (སེམས་ཙམ་, sems tsam, Mind Only) treatises do not accept vows for the mind of aspiration. Having trained in its cause, aspiring for the body that perfects the benefit of others, learning the precepts of the aspiring mind. Secondly, the way to train in the precepts is twofold: training in the precepts of the aspiring mind and training in the precepts of the entering mind. The first has two parts: aspiring not to forget the mind of enlightenment and training in the causes and conditions for not forgetting it. The first is: having dedicated the root of virtue to the great enlightenment, may I never be separated from the mind of enlightenment, even for a moment, in all lifetimes. By what cause? By dedicating all virtues, such as prostrations, to the great enlightenment. This is in accordance with what is said: 'May the mind of enlightenment never be forgotten.' This aspiration must be made, because if the opposite of the Bodhisattva vow arises in another lifetime, then at that time it will become a downfall. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
