Those who hold the view of contemplation say that the ultimate nature of all phenomena is none other than the nature of mind, which is mere clarity and awareness. This is realized simply by relying on the key point of stopping conceptual clinging. As soon as it is directly seen, it is certain that all appearances of dualistic grasping are illusions. It is only through this way of opening the view and experiencing that one can traverse the bhumis. What is the use of so many terms from the Madhyamaka collections of reasoning (dbu ma rigs tshogs) and the seven treatises on valid cognition (tshad ma sde bdun)? In Nagarjuna’s (Klu sgrub) collections of reasoning, the view to be experienced through meditation is not explained. In Tibet, most of the previous masters of oral instructions said that emptiness, which is the analytical dissection of the aggregates, is meaningless. Some of the later great ones also say that the way of establishing the view explained in the treatises known as Prasangika and Svatantrika Madhyamaka is meaningless because it does not agree with the teachings of the venerable Maitreya (Byams pa) and contradicts the secret mantra Vajrayana. They explain it in this way. Such explanations are sectarian, clinging to one side. But the Sakyapas (sa skya pa), who are the masters of Sutra, Tantra, and oral instructions, hold that each of these ways of explaining must include both. How is that? As the venerable Three White Ones (dkar po rnam gsum) said: ‘Establish in freedom from extremes and experience in union.’ Like this, the way of abiding in the view of the oral instruction lineage is reasonable. But as its component, the way of establishing through the reasoning of the two chariots (shing rta'i srol gnyis) is absolutely necessary. Because without it, one cannot reverse the conceptual thought of apprehending the defining meaning of what is to be experienced. Also, the way of establishing through the reasoning of the Abhidharma is good. But as its component, one must identify a defining meaning of what is to be experienced. Because without it, what is established through hearing and thinking does not transcend the realm of verbal concepts. And the emptiness established by the Madhyamaka collections of reasoning is merely a negation of what does not exist. And the view that takes as its object the emptiness established through hearing and thinking is nothing more than a poisonous view. So, are hearing and thinking meaningless? No, because conceptual clinging must be reversed. And when it is reversed, the signless wisdom will arise spontaneously. That which arises in this way is called the view of experience, the view of experiential samadhi. And that itself is the ultimate of all views. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Moreover, the view of pure hearing and thinking is the antidote to universal ignorance, and is called the path of cutting attachment. The view of experiential samadhi is explained as the antidote to continuous conceptualization, and is called the path of great enlightenment. Some say that the ultimate view of the Sakya school is that which comes from the Madhyamaka collections of reasoning and the treatises of the Prasangika school. Those who say these things do not truly understand the Sakya teachings. In the words of those venerable ones, there is no ultimate truth that is not expressed through nomenclature in the treatises of the teachers who composed the treatises. If the identification of the view is explained in a general way, it becomes an ultimate truth expressed through nomenclature. There is not a single instance where the definitive meaning is actually explained. The emptiness explained as luminosity and emptiness of appearance is not explained as negation, because it is explained in terms of union. If the understanding of union is explained as combination, it is extremely inferior. The identification of the ultimate truth that is not expressed through nomenclature must be explained in a hidden and ultimate way. However, in the reasoning of the characteristic vehicle, no one explains it as a hidden and ultimate meaning. The emptiness explained in terms of union must be explained as being empty of the conceptualization of grasping at the apprehended and the apprehender, because all the explanations of the Vajra verses explain it in this way. Then, if someone asks: 'Is it not said that in the non-elaboration of the Perfection of Wisdom, if there is a higher view, then that view becomes elaborate?' The answer is that the non-elaboration of the Perfection of Wisdom vehicle is not necessarily pervaded by negation. Even if it is negation, it is in terms of the view of hearing and thinking, not in terms of the view of experiential samadhi, because immediately after that quote, it says: 'Therefore, what is understood through explanation is the one view of hearing.' Here I say: Like Indra with a thousand eyes, the great Brahma descended to earth; you are the giver of the bliss of a hundred flavors of liberation, a beautiful maiden skilled in explanation. You are not captured by the noose of the god of desire, but are an offering to that one; may you become a mother free from sorrow, not abandoned by the gaze of loving discernment! This concludes the explanation of the answer to the first question. May there be auspiciousness! I prostrate to the fully enlightened Buddha! In order to differentiate the views of the various schools, I will explain how they explain the relationship between actions and their results. The following is the explanation of the answer to the second question, in two parts: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
