Therefore, in order to abide in a state free from conceptualization, it is necessary to have a wisdom that is free from discrimination. Not to mention the meditation of the noble ones, even the preliminary practices of the Mahayana path must be established in a meditation free from mental engagement and attachment. This is clearly stated in the treatises of Lord Maitreya, such as the 'Ornament of Clear Realization,' 'Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes,' and 'Distinguishing Dharma from Dharmata.' Because of this, the wisdom of individual analysis, which is explained as insight in many scriptures, is wisdom born of thought, not the actual yoga born of meditation. Similarly, the nine ways of abiding the mind, which are explained as calm abiding in many scriptures, are only preparations for entering meditation, not the actual yoga born of meditation. The former is called insight without calm abiding, and calm abiding without insight. The state of combining the two is called the actual yoga born of meditation. During the actual meditation, mindfulness and awareness are necessary, but these are only to eliminate the faults of meditation, not the actual meditation itself. During the actual meditation, just as the fire produced by rubbing two pieces of wood together eventually burns the wood itself, the wisdom of individual analysis must also be burned by the fire of wisdom. If calm abiding, which is free from mental engagement, turns into dullness or agitation, then why wouldn't the wisdom of individual analysis turn into distraction or excitement? Second, regarding how to establish one's own view: The Prasangika Madhyamaka school believes that during the preliminary practice, one first uses reasoning to investigate, and then during the actual practice, one abides in a state of finding nothing. At this time, the object and the subject are not separate, but everything is integrated into the one taste of emptiness, let alone clinging to mental engagement. The Yogacara school believes that during the preliminary practice, one first establishes that the apprehended and the apprehender are non-dual, and then during the actual practice, one abides in the self-knowing and self-illuminating consciousness of the two emptinesses. Therefore, no matter what kind of mental activity arises at this time, it is not considered the actual yoga of meditation. The Anuttarayoga Tantra school believes that during the preliminary practice, one first receives empowerment and blessings, and then during the actual practice, one abides in the state of manifesting the wisdom of great bliss. Therefore, let alone mental engagement at this time, no matter what kind of samsaric consciousness arises, it is not considered the actual yoga of the view. At this time, there are terms such as 'appearance and emptiness in union,' 'awareness and clarity in union,' and 'body and bliss in union.' At this time, 'emptiness' means that all apprehended and apprehender are integrated into emptiness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, when explaining emptiness, one should abide in the state of natural flow, without fabricating anything. When awareness arises in a clear, bright, and non-conceptual state, if attachment arises to the comfort of the body, then one will fall into the realm of contaminated existence. Therefore, when the comfort of the body is free from the attachment of contaminated existence, one abides in the bliss of uncontaminated existence. However, some later Tibetan scholars misunderstand the emptiness here as being devoid of true existence, and claim to combine bliss and emptiness into one, or to combine clarity and emptiness into subject and object duality, these views are not trustworthy. In addition, some practitioners of the oral tradition rely on the guru's supplication, strong devotion, and contemplation of the nature of mind during union, so that during the main practice, awareness abides in a state of clarity and emptiness without attachment. However, any form of conceptualization will obscure the true meaning of reality. This wisdom of clarity and emptiness without attachment is universally present in all sentient beings from the Buddha to sentient beings, which the tantric tradition calls the self-nature Dharmakaya and the all-perfect supreme emptiness. The Maitreya school calls it the luminosity of the nature of mind. The Nyingma school calls it Dzogchen. The Mahamudra school calls it Mahamudra. The Shije school calls it the complete cessation of suffering. The Sakya school explains it as the Alaya consciousness cause and the inseparability of samsara and nirvana. Nevertheless, there is only one reality to be realized, but the methods of realization are different. As Sakya Pandita said: 'If the dependent individual is a practitioner of the Paramita Vehicle, then one must first think about its meaning with reason; if one is a practitioner of the Vajrayana Vehicle, then one must first receive a qualified empowerment. If one does not rely on either of these two, and only believes that one's own mind abides in a state of clarity and emptiness without attachment, then it is not trustworthy.' Third, regarding supplementary explanations: In the past, there were the following terminological distinctions for the above-mentioned meditation methods: the way in which the Paramita Vehicle's meditation generates realization is called the analytical meditation of the wise Panditas, while the meditation methods of the mantra and oral tradition schools are called the abiding meditation of the yogis. The former believes that the true meaning of reality is very hidden, and that one cannot realize it without relying on credible signs. Therefore, they believe that the latter's meditation is the meditation of fools. Rong's father and sons and later Kham people also claimed this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
