If someone thinks: 'Because all phenomena are false, both negative and positive actions do not exist, therefore, neither lower realms nor higher realms exist. Consequently, the six perfections (Paramita), the Form Body (Rupakaya) of the Buddha, the sacred Dharma (Dharma) spoken by the Buddha, and the Sangha (Sangha) who uphold and practice the Dharma also do not exist.' The answer to this is: As long as the mind that clings to characteristics is not abandoned, these will continue to exist, and it is necessary to adopt or reject them. Even then, one must adopt or reject without contemplating the reality with reasoning, because when one contemplates in that way, one does not perceive any conventional truths (Samvriti-satya). As it is said in the 'Entering the Middle Way' (Madhyamakavatara): 'Therefore, the ripening of negative actions is seen as arising from black deeds; the ripening of virtue is seen as arising from virtuous deeds. When those with wisdom realize that neither virtue nor non-virtue exists, they ultimately cease clinging to the results of actions.' This kind of objection, along with its answer, has been clearly explained by Chandrakirti. As it is said in the 'Clear Words' (Prasannapada): 'If the teacher composed this treatise because all phenomena are shown to be false, then whatever is false does not exist. Therefore, negative actions would cease to exist, and if negative actions do not exist, then the lower realms would also not exist; virtuous actions and the higher realms would also not exist. Since higher and lower realms do not exist, samsara (Samsara) would also not exist, so wouldn't all the writings become meaningless?' To this, we will reply: 'Relative to conventional truth, we declare that things are false as an antidote to worldly people who cling to the appearance of things as real. The noble ones (Aryas) have never paid any attention to what is false or not false.' Furthermore, what does it matter to those who fully understand that all phenomena are of the nature of falsity whether actions and samsara exist or not? Because they do not fixate on any phenomena as existing or not existing. Also, later Tibetan scholars might think: 'If our own system does not accept ultimate truth (Paramartha-satya), then what is the use of establishing its system in the 'Middle Way Treatise' (Madhyamaka-shastra)?' Chandrakirti has also clearly explained this objection along with its answer. As it is said in the 'Clear Words': 'If you say, what is the use of pointing out what should be completely abandoned? To this, we will reply: 'Although that is indeed the case, nevertheless, for the sake of worldly people who have characteristics such as speakers, things to be spoken, knowers, and objects to be known...' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If one does not acknowledge the ultimate truth, one cannot demonstrate it; if one cannot demonstrate it, one cannot realize it; and if one cannot realize the ultimate truth, one cannot reach the city of Nirvana. This is what is said in the scriptures. Secondly, quoting the scripture of *Legden Hje* (Legs ldan 'byed, *Bhavyaviveka*), as it says in the *Lamp of Wisdom* (*She rab sgron ma*, *Prajñāpradīpa*): 'The causes that produce the internal sense bases, etc., are only existent, because the Tathagata has said so.' First, this preliminary view is presented, and then the answer is given, is it established as a sign of conventional truth or as a sign of ultimate truth? Two investigations are made. If according to the first, it is not established for other opponents; if according to the second, it is not established for the Madhyamikas. Thus explained, when analyzing the ultimate truth, if one does not acknowledge the conventional truth, *Legden Hje* (*Bhavyaviveka*) must accept it, and *Zla ba* (*Chandrakirti*) cited this argument. Master Yeshe Nyingpo also does not acknowledge the existence of conventional truth here, as it says in the *Two Truths*: 'As its nature appears, one should not investigate this, if one makes a discriminating investigation, the meaning will change and be harmed.' And 'In reality, there is no duality, therefore it is not empty, not non-empty, not existent, not non-existent.' The meaning of these will be explained below. After explaining this, the reasons why conventional truth does not exist in one's own system will be explained. Although it is said in the scriptures that eyes, etc., exist in name, merely because they exist there does not mean that they exist in one's own system. Because 'name' refers to the conceptualization that grasps at characteristics, and the expression that arises from it. If merely because it exists in name, it is considered to exist, then it would be an extreme consequence that persons and the self of phenomena also exist, and conventional truth would become truly existent, and the basis for false perceptions and valid cognition would be the same, and if one has to accept it because one is afraid of worldly harm, then whatever the world accepts as true, the Madhyamikas would also have to accept as true. If that were the case, then all those explanations of true conventionality would become uncertain. After that, five reasons that are in accordance with the view of *Zla ba'i Zhabs* (*Chandrakirti*) will be stated, as follows: Whatever the Madhyamikas acknowledge as conventional truth, it is necessarily not existent in the Madhyamikas' own system. For example, whatever worldly people acknowledge as conventional truth, it must not be existent in their own system. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
