As you all have said, at that time it is called the 'remainder of falsehood.' Which wise person would not understand this?' Thus it is said. These treatises merely negate the establishment of conventional truth as real, but do not think that this negates the existence of conventional truth. If the non-existence of conventional truth is not established, then the unreality of conventional truth cannot be established. If you think this way, then the distinction between the unreality of the conventional and the reality of nirvana is also unreasonable, because both are equally unreal. In this way, the statement 'conventional is unreal, and nirvana is real' is only valid in the intermediate stage for the purpose of refuting the reasoning of self-grasping, cutting off the proliferation of clinging to reality, and establishing the existence of ultimate truth. However, it is not valid in the ultimate view of our own school, because at that time, even nirvana is explained as false. As it says in that very text: 'Those who have not seen the truth, both the world and nirvana are delusions; those who have seen the truth, there is no delusion in either the world or nirvana.' In its commentary, Chandrakirti (ཟླ་བའི་ཞབས་, , , 'feet of the moon') says that nirvana is also a conventional truth. Secondly, regarding the quotations from the commentaries, here are some quotations from Chandrakirti and Shantideva (ལེགས་ལྡན་འབྱེད་, , , 'he who distinguishes the good'). First, as the Prasannapadā (Clear Words) says: 'What is the use of making a detailed analysis of worldly conventions?' We also say the same thing, that merely the existence of the nature of inverted conventionality becomes a cause for accumulating the roots of virtue that lead to liberation for those who desire it, and this will continue to exist until the reality is realized.' and so on, extensively explained. And in the Madhyamakāvatāra (Entering the Middle Way) it says: 'If one desires that the true wisdom arise, then those five signs of decline will inevitably occur to the yogi when he emerges from meditation.' And 'As you accept that other-dependent things exist, I do not accept conventionality either. Although these do not exist for the sake of action, I say that they exist in the face of the world.' And in its commentary it says: 'Although they are not existent, they are said to exist only because they are renowned by the world, and it is only in the face of the world that they are established, and following that is a means of refuting it.' And 'Through the door of other-dependence, I accept conventionality, but not independently. Acceptance is also only by the world.' And 'You and the world.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the commentary on 'Argue here,' it says: 'We exist with great effort in order to reverse the conventional truth of the world, you destroy the conventional truth of the world! If the world does not harm you, I will also help you.' And, 'If you are victorious, that is what we desire, we will rely on you. If you are defeated by the world, then I will rely on the powerful world.' Those who do not understand the meaning of this quote think that it shows that our own system acknowledges the truth of conventional truth, but this is a misunderstanding. This quote says that what exists is the view of the world, and what does not exist is the view of the Madhyamaka. First, one relies on the world, and then enters one's own system. Relying on it first is also the means of reversing it. As it says in the root text and commentary: 'Everything is true and not true.' Therefore, in this case, one must only acknowledge the ultimate truth. As it says in the commentary to the *Entering the Middle Way*: 'If it is not so, why speak of two truths? There should be only one truth. Therefore, production from another exists.' To this it will be explained: 'This is true, but in ultimate truth, two truths do not exist. Monks, the truth that is shown is one, namely, the non-deceptive nature of nirvana. All formations are false, having the nature of deception.' Therefore, conventional truth is the means of entering ultimate truth, therefore, without examining self and other production, one accepts the ways of the world. This quote and the *Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning* that was just quoted both clearly state that one's own system acknowledges the way of establishing ultimate truth, and that conventional truth is the way of the world. To say that the world's own system is also the Madhyamaka's own system is completely confused. After explaining it in this way, later Tibetans will think: If, when establishing the Madhyamaka's own system, one acknowledges that conventional truth does not exist, then the paths of action of the ten virtues and ten non-virtues will not exist. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
