The term 'conventional' is not established by the world, because worldly people consider something to be true, but do not consider it to be conventional. Because they acknowledge it as truth and not deceptive. Therefore, in the commentary on the *Entering the Middle Way* (*Madhyamakāvatāra*), a sutra is quoted: 'The world argues with me, but I do not argue with the world. Whatever the world considers to exist, I also consider to exist; whatever the world considers not to exist, I also consider not to exist.' As it is said, the correct conventional truth established by the Madhyamaka school itself, and the ultimate truth established by the worldly people themselves, are acknowledged to exist as long as they are not examined by reason, because they are known to exist in the world. The Madhyamaka school establishes the false conventional truth, and the conventional truth established by the worldly people, even if they are not examined by reason, are not acknowledged to exist, because they are not known to exist in the world. Incidentally, it is necessary to know this, as it is said: 'The ignorant heretics are deeply asleep.' From the statement 'Those are not even in the world,' although it is said that the 'self' and so on, established by the heretics, all the things established by evil tenets, do not exist in the world. However, worldly people have not proven that they do not exist, because they are hidden from the world. If worldly people prove that they do not exist, then the hundreds of reasons for examining the ultimate truth, stated to prove that they do not exist, will become meaningless. If someone asks, 'Is the other case the same?' The answer is: that does not exist, because the measure of the world has not observed it. According to that view, those things are also not non-existent, because there is no measure in the world that observes that they do not exist. If asked, 'How does it not exist?' The answer is: because the arising of the measure that observes that it does not exist depends solely on the treatises. Therefore, according to this view, the pervasion that existence implies non-existence applies only to the observable aspect, and for the unobservable aspect, the pervasion is extremely mistaken. If someone thinks, 'According to their view, that does not exist, because the measure of their view has not observed it,' then, as it is said, 'Not seeing does not mean it does not exist,' it would be necessary to cite this reasoning in reverse. After explaining in this way, statements such as 'like a permanent self' and 'the birth of the four extremes' often appear in the scriptures, which are also not existent in the worldly terminology. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Deva asked: 'As it is said in the scriptures: 'Things that arise from elsewhere do not exist in the world.' This means to contemplate things that do not actually exist. Otherwise, if there is nothing that arises from elsewhere, it becomes the ultimate truth in the world, because it is established through valid cognition (pramana). If so, the basis of the ultimate truth of the Madhyamaka school and the ultimate truth of the worldly school become the same. If so, then in this school, all the conventional truths such as aggregates, elements, and sense bases are considered to exist as they appear in false perceptions that are not corrupted by immediate causes of delusion. This acceptance is called the correct view, and it does not become an eternalist view. The thought that clings to the non-existence of these things is a nihilistic view, because it denies the things established by innate thought. By the way, it is necessary to know that the previous life and the next life, which are denied by the Vaisheshika school, are not non-existent in the worldly sense. Even though denying them is a false conventional truth, it cannot be said that they exist, because they are not established by valid cognition. Why? Because their establishment depends entirely on the reasoning well-known in the scriptures. Therefore, the existence of previous and subsequent lives and the law of cause and effect, as well as the existence of an omniscient being, etc., although not established by the valid cognition of the world itself, can be considered to exist in the worldly conventional level through the reasoning well-known in the scriptures. Therefore, one is a negating conventional truth, and the other is the ultimate truth of the world, and they must be distinguished. These reasons are also as stated in the scriptures: 'When denying the existence of the next world, one is understood to be looking at the nature of knowable things in a reversed way. Because the form of his view is the same as the dependence on the body. It is the same when one accepts that there is a nature of arising.' In explaining its implied meaning, it says: 'When one realizes that there is another world, one is understood to be seeing the nature of knowable things, that is, the ultimate truth.' 'When denying the perfectly enlightened Buddha, one is understood to be looking at the nature of knowable things in a reversed way.' 'Here, when one realizes that there is an omniscient being, one is understood to be seeing the nature of knowable things, that is, the ultimate truth.' This is explained in detail. Therefore, the existence or non-existence of an omniscient being, and the existence or non-existence of the next world, etc., are all questions discussed within the scope of the world itself. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
