Although the explanation of these three viewpoints (three-sentence argument) is not entirely without flaws, we do not completely refrain from using these words. Some say: 'A sprout, should be existent, because it is not non-existent.' To this, one should respond that the pervasion is contradictory. If someone says: 'Should be non-existent, because it is not existent,' then one should answer by distinguishing: if one merely considers it as the negation of existence, then it is acceptable to concede; if one thinks that after negating existence, non-existence can be established, or says 'should be non-existent,' then one should respond that the pervasion is contradictory. The reason for this is that to establish the non-existence of things like sprouts, one must rely on its opposite, existence; if it can be established without relying on the opposite, then it becomes self-established. Then, if someone says: 'A sprout, should be truly non-existent, because it is truly non-existent,' or 'should be free from elaboration, because it is free from elaboration,' this is also a contradictory pervasion, because to establish true non-existence, there must be its opposite, true existence. As the scripture says: 'If truth becomes other, people say that this is true non-existence.' Such a statement is also not a pervasion that agrees with asserting things as real, because in these aspects one can also say: 'Space, should be future, because it is future,' 'Ignorance, should be ignorance, because it is ignorance,' 'Asuras and non-humans, should be asuras and non-humans, because they are not that.' These are just words, but if one considers the meaning, it is like an opponent who already has in their mind the subsequent inference of inferring the absence of smoke in the ocean at night due to the absence of fire, and then says to the ocean at night: 'The ocean at night, should be without smoke, because there is no smoke.' If they concede this, then that subsequent inference will determine that there is no smoke there. If they also concede this, then such a reason of not seeing the cause will become the fruit of a decisive cognition that determines that one's own object of negation does not exist on that basis. If that is the case, then the absence of fire should become the reason for not seeing the nature of establishing that there, because your reason has become the fruit of a decisive cognition that determines that one's own object of negation does not exist on the object of knowledge that one wants to know. In short, although the reason of not seeing the invisible can prevent the existence of one's own object of negation, it cannot establish non-existence; while other reasons of not seeing the visible can prevent. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even if one can prevent something from arising, one cannot prove that it necessarily does not exist. Conversely, by arguing that the self-nature of phenomena is unattainable, one can also prove its necessary non-existence. These subtle differences arise from speculation. In this system, the so-called 'non-existence' that 'clings to extremes' is not simply a negation, but needs to be explained through the method of negation, because this negation must be understood as non-affirming negation (med dgag). Furthermore, one can also refute in this way: If something is separated from elaboration, then it is separated from elaboration, this is pervasion. Subject (chos can): It is not existent, because it is separated from the limits of elaboration. It is also not non-existent, because it is separated from the limits of elaboration. This pervasion is also the same. The reason for this argument, whether established or not, we do not accept, because it is separated from the limits. So, what is the use of establishing such an argument? By making the sign and pervasion established in the mind of the opponent, thereby eliminating this or that extreme on the subject, this is certain. At this time, the theorists of other schools, covering their necks with thick hair, the arguments of nonsensical speech, their laughter shakes the three realms. Then, on the path of theory, without abandoning the steps of discernment, the shouts of nonsense, will they not shake the four great continents? When their situation penetrates deeply into the mind, they make no commitment based on ultimate meaning, and this is called a commitment separated from elaboration, this method has been explained. Third, entering the gate of union, divided into two: identifying the nature of the union of the two truths; refuting others' examination of it. First, there may be such a doubt: The Madhyamaka school repeatedly declares that conventional phenomena are not established by valid cognition. Then, wouldn't the union of appearance and emptiness and the union of the two truths not be the view of the Madhyamaka school? If so, how should we explain: 'Apart from dependent arising, there is no other phenomenon; therefore, apart from emptiness, there is no other phenomenon.' and 'Who regards emptiness and dependent arising as the same meaning in the Middle Way, to that incomparable supreme teacher I prostrate.' These statements? This is not a contradiction, subject: sprout (myu gu) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
