Moreover, it can prophesy whether it has an end or not. If one dharma does not exist, then it must exist, because existence and non-existence are contradictory. This statement is very inappropriate for the Madhyamaka school. For example, when examining the ultimate truth, if the sprout, which is the basis, has not grown, then it must not grow; if it has grown, then it must grow, because growth and non-growth are mutually exclusive contradictions. If one has walked and there is no walking, then there must be walking for the non-walked, because walked and non-walked are mutually exclusive contradictions. Similarly, if conditioned phenomena are not established, then unconditioned phenomena must be established; if things are not established, then non-things must be established; if non-emptiness does not exist, then emptiness must exist; if bondage is not liberated, then non-bondage must be liberated, and so on. Because one must accept these, all the reasonings of Nagarjuna will become completely reversed. Therefore, for the reasoning of Nagarjuna, one must say: 'For example, a sprout is neither existent nor non-existent.' Because one can admit that a dharma does not exist, then there must be something called its opposite. Secondly, the way of establishing one's own system is unreasonable, which includes unreasonableness in reasoning and unreasonableness in self-contradiction. First, if it is said: 'Existence is not true, and non-existence is not true,' etc., then this tenet becomes the unique tenet of the Madhyamaka school, because as it is said in the 'Distinction of Tenets' by the venerable Avalokiteshvara and the teacher Aryadeva: 'Neither existent nor non-existent, nor both existent and non-existent, nor the nature of both, this is the reasoning of the Madhyamaka school.' You should have explained the meaning of being free from extremes as explained in that treatise in this way. But you cannot do so, because there is no self-sectarian tenet that does not admit this kind of being free from extremes, and also, many other sects that admit this kind of being free from extremes are not seen. Furthermore, if one examines in detail this clinging to the extreme that 'non-existence is true,' then on which person does it rely, whether it is innate or imputed conceptual thought? Moreover, this meaning of being free from extremes is also included only in being free from the extreme of true existence, so it is not the complete meaning of being free from extremes. Furthermore, when saying 'existence is not true,' etc., existence and non-existence --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it established based on the basis of difference, or based on the characteristic of difference? If according to the first way, if you are asked what are the four extremes to be refuted on the four bases of existence and non-existence, etc., you cannot point it out, because you cannot recognize anything other than the one extreme of truly established. If according to the second way, you cannot point out what is the basis of difference that serves as the basis for refuting the four extremes of elaboration on existence and non-existence, etc. Because when analyzing ultimate elaboration, you have already admitted that all dharmas exist. Second, the contradiction in admission lies in that all three ways of explaining freedom from extremes quoted above can be stated. First, for the third view, it can be said that the four extremes of existence and non-existence are all subjects, and are false because they are not true. You must admit this pervasion, because truth and falsehood are mutually exclusive. All three are written on paper and admitted. If you insist on the root, then the way of admitting is: if the existence of a pot is false, then the non-existence of a pot must not be false, because the existence and non-existence of a pot are mutually exclusive. All three are admitted. If the four extremes of elaboration are all false, then why is nirvana not false? These four extremes do not go beyond the scope of conventional truth and definite non-existence. If you say so, then the view of freedom from extremes becomes one-sided, because the extreme of ultimate truth being truly established is not refuted here. For the middle way of explanation, it seems to be said that one cannot admit that things like sprouts are free from the two extremes of existence and non-existence, and one is not attached to it. Then, the thought of being attached to the existence of a sprout is consistent with reality in the way of grasping, because the sprout exists. If you admit this, then the thought of being attached to the non-existence of a sprout is inconsistent with it, because it exists. If you also admit this, then the contradiction in admission will appear in sequence. Both the conceptual thought that conforms to reality and the conceptual thought that does not conform to reality should be refuted. If so, then why refute the sprout existence and non-existence separately, and not consider it a fault? For the first view, then sprouts and other things are both truly existent and non-existent in name, because they are not neither. All three are admitted. In this way, the way of explanation --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
