If someone thinks that what is cognized by the world is more true than the world itself, then this contradicts (the Madhyamaka view). If someone says that although the scriptures say this or that is true, they do not say it is truly established, then no one can explain the difference between truth and not being truly established from the perspective of clinging to truth. If he admits this, then you also admit that conventional truth is truly established. What do worldly people acknowledge? You claim to be a Prasangika Madhyamaka, so when establishing conventional truth, you must acknowledge what worldly people acknowledge. Why is this? Because the commentary on the *Entering the Middle Way* quotes the scripture: 'What the world considers to exist, I also consider to exist.' One must carefully analyze and contemplate what meaning this quote is trying to convey. If someone says that although admitting that conventional truth is truly established, this does not deviate from the Madhyamaka tenets, because this admission is the view of the world, not the ultimate self-view of the noble ones. Then, those with wisdom can say so. In that case, our view is established. Because when explaining the reasoning for refuting self, although subsequent wisdom acknowledges that the ultimate truth of true emptiness is truly established, this does not deviate from the Madhyamaka tenets, because this admission is the way of establishing conventional truth, not the ultimate self-view of Madhyamaka. Why is this? Although from the perspective of negating truth, the ultimate truth is acknowledged here, its existence or non-existence, and whether it is established as the ultimate truth, etc., do not go beyond the scope of conventional truth. And, that this or that is so, must ultimately be stopped by the reasoning that cuts off the proliferation of true non-existence, thereby establishing it as a state free from proliferation. Second, the true answer is: a vase is empty in conventional truth, so it must be acknowledged here as truly established, because it must be acknowledged here as a nature with three characteristics. The connection is, as it is said: 'Nature is uncreated and does not depend on others.' And Chandrakirti explains that the essence that does not depend on others is the meaning of 'self' and 'truly established.' As it is said in the commentary on the *Hundred Verses*: 'What is called 'self' is the nature of things that does not depend on others.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, if the Svātantrika clearly explains that the self-nature of things, which does not depend on others, is the meaning of the true existence of things, then it must also be explained that the self-nature of non-things, which does not depend on others, is also the self and the meaning of the true existence of non-things. Therefore, when Candrakīrti establishes the ultimate view of the Madhyamaka school, he does not accept these three self-nature distinctions, because by revealing the emptiness of self-nature, he also establishes that self-nature is emptiness. Here, it needs to be understood that the self-nature that is grasped as the object of emptiness is not the self-nature of conventional truth, but must be explained as the self-nature of ultimate truth. As it is said in the Mūlamadhyamakakārikā: 'Because it is not made by self-nature, it is called self-nature.' The answer to the second objection is: If self-nature is admitted to be truly existent here, then Candrakīrti's system will fall, and the fault of accepting the Shentong system will be committed. Candrakīrti has clearly stated the answers to these accusations. As it is said in the commentary on the Madhyamakāvatāra: 'Someone says: Alas! You do not admit any things, and you also admit a self-nature that is not false and does not depend on others. You are speaking contradictory words!' Answer: 'It should be said that you do not understand the intention of this treatise.' The intention of this treatise is: If the eyes and other things are grasped by ordinary people, and their self-nature is dependent origination, then, because the self-nature is understood in a perverted way, the practice of celibacy will become meaningless. Therefore, precisely because this is not self-nature, the practice of celibacy becomes meaningful for the purpose of observing this. I say that it is non-false and does not depend on others in the context of conventional truth. That which cannot be observed by ordinary people can be called self-nature. Just so, it is neither existent nor non-existent in ultimate truth, because it is the very nature of peace.' As mentioned above, the three self-nature distinctions accepted by Candrakīrti are also in the context of conventional truth, not in the context of ultimate truth. That is to say, even if self-nature itself is ultimate truth here, it can be conventional truth in other situations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
