If the answer is: 'It is not the same, because the pervasive true existence has already been negated.' Then, the previous argument would also commit the same error, because the pervasive truth has been negated. If you say so, then the reason is not established, because the conventional truth has been negated, and efforts are made to establish the ultimate truth. If the answer is: 'Then, the previous argument is also not established, because one side has been negated, and efforts are made to establish the ultimate truth.' Then, the ultimate truth cannot be established by effort, because the pervasive truth has been negated.' If you say this, you will fall into the contradiction of the three wheels being empty, and you will ask us: 'The ultimate truth cannot be established, because the pervasive true existence has been negated.' If you refute in this way, you will return to the fundamental point of contention, so it is uncertain. If you say this, you will be in agreement with the later Tibetan Buddhists. The second point is that whatever we hold as the basis for the name of ultimate truth will ultimately negate it as the ultimate truth. In this case, in the context of cutting off the proliferation of clinging to truth, it is permissible to acknowledge it as truth, existing in truth, self-nature, existing in self-nature, ultimate, or existing in the ultimate. Just as a vase is not truly existent, although a vase can be taken as an object of study, it itself will not be taken as an object of study. Therefore, in the face of subsequent consciousness and language, it appears to be amenable to rational analysis. If someone asks: 'Then, wouldn't rational analysis be endless, and wouldn't there be things that cannot be analyzed?' My answer is: As long as one has not been able to attain the quiescence that is free from all proliferation, rational analysis is indeed endless. However, once quiescence has been attained, rational analysis is not endless. Because at that time it is impossible to express in words, so nothing is said. Therefore, in the middle of explaining the reason for refuting self, acknowledging the existence of truth, self-nature, suchness, and ultimate, is not only the view of the Svatantrika, but also the immaculate view of Master Chandrakirti. As it is said in the *Entering the Middle Way*: 'Because its self-nature is like that.' In the commentary it says: 'Does the master specifically acknowledge such a self-nature in the treatise?' This is because, whether the Buddhas appear or not, the dharma-nature of all dharmas exists.' There is a detailed explanation here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I asked, 'Does suchness (chos nyid) exist?' If it does not, then why do Bodhisattvas cultivate the path of pāramitās? It is because Bodhisattvas strive so diligently to realize suchness.' To prove this, the sūtra quotes: 'Noble son, if ultimate reality (don dam pa) did not exist, then pure conduct (tshangs par spyod pa) would be meaningless, and the appearance of the Tathāgatas (de bzhin gshegs pa) would be meaningless. Because ultimate reality exists, Bodhisattvas are called skilled in ultimate reality.' To address this statement, in order to dispel disputes and explain the meaning established by it, two aspects will be explained. First, if one admits the existence of 'non-truth' (bden med) etc. in this context, then Candrakīrti (zla ba'i zhabs) has repeatedly stated: 'The reasoning of Madhyamaka refutes true existence, but does not establish non-truth.' And Candrakīrti explains this as the basis for not accepting Svatantrika (rang rgyud). It seems to contradict this. The answer to this is: when reasoning cuts off elaboration (spros pa), it is indeed so. However, in subsequent understanding and expression, two situations arise: for those with sharp faculties, the wisdom of non-elaboration arises spontaneously; for those with dull faculties, even if a definite understanding of the ultimate truth (don dam pa'i bden pa) arises, they cannot induce a definite understanding that is completely free from elaboration, so it is necessary to establish it with reasoning free from elaboration. This refers to the latter situation. Second, the meaning of establishment is: first, when admitting conventional truth (kun rdzob kyi bden pa), the ultimate truth that is recognized in the world should also be admitted as it is recognized in the world. Thus, for conventional objects, whether or not the name 'truly established' (bden grub) is admitted, the meaning of truly established is admitted. Afterwards, by reasoning that establishes 'non-truth,' after refuting true establishment, even if the name 'truly established' is not admitted on the previously admitted subject (chos can)—conventionality—suchness—ultimately, the meaning of being truly established on it has been admitted. The reason is that when the Madhyamaka view (dbu ma'i lta ba) has not yet arisen, true existence is not refuted on the objects recognized in the world, but it is admitted as true. Afterwards, through wisdom... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
