Relying on the power and might of the eight kings, each performing pleasing rituals, the vast land is peaceful and happy, and all demonic obstacles and spirits are filled with peaceful minds. The five arrows of war transformed by the wicked demon are pacified in their own place. All temporal conflicts and weapon-related calamities are pacified. All evil thoughts of cruel beings do not arise. Even the cruel ones abide in love towards each other like parents. In all realms of the world, rainfall occurs in due season. Harvests and livestock are always prosperous. All human and animal diseases are completely pacified. All plagues and epidemics are nearly pacified.' After reciting this three times, recite 'May the gods send rain in due season,' etc., and 'May the world be peaceful and the harvests be good,' etc. Furthermore, if the Vajra Master, virtuous friend, or Dharma King passes away untimely, a ritual is performed to request them to remain, including prayers to avert the causes of death and to reverse the situation. Firstly, the causes of death are: division within the Sangha, corruption of moral discipline, the evil conduct of the king of the land leading to lineage disruption, the turbidity of the wisdom mirror of those to be tamed, evil slander against those who preach the Dharma, and the disruption of Dharma protectors due to these factors, and so on. Secondly, the method of averting death is: first, strive to take measures to prevent these factors, and then pray thus: 'May the Three Jewels (དཀོན་མཆོག་རིན་པོ་ཆེ་རྣམ་པ་གསུམ་，ratna-traya，triratna，Three Jewels), the assembly of Dharma protectors and their retinues, please listen. Vajra Master, virtuous friend who preaches the Dharma, or Dharma King, named so-and-so, for the sake of his/her long life to benefit the Dharma and sentient beings, the great Bhikshu Sangha, through harmonious Posadha, makes the Sangha harmonious, through auspicious Posadha eliminates the calamities caused by the evil deeds of the king, etc., through Posadha that purifies moral discipline, fully practices the precepts, arranges many suitable beings on the seat of preaching the sacred Dharma, visualizes oneself as a Buddha and abides in the great mandala, receives empowerment and restores broken vows, offers to the Three Jewels and fulfills the wishes of the assembly of Dharma protectors, and relying on the power of turning the wheel of the profound and vast Dharma, prays that the one named so-and-so will not pass into sorrow, but will remain for a long time.' May the supreme wheel of Dharma be turned! May great virtue and goodness increase and spread throughout the world!' Repeat three times. 'By the truth of the Three Jewels, the blessings of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the great power of the complete accumulation of the two accumulations, and the inconceivable power of the pure realm of Dharma, may it be thus!' Repeat three times. 'May the teacher remain in the world! May the teachings be clear as the sunlight! May the holders of the teachings be harmonious as brothers! May the teachings last long, may there be auspiciousness!' Thus it is said. Activities for the Deceased Secondly, activities for the deceased are of two types: offering and making aspirations for special individuals, and making aspirations for ordinary individuals to follow virtuous deeds. Offering and Making Aspirations for Special Individuals Firstly, we beseech the Three Jewels, the precious ones, the Lama (spiritual teacher), the virtuous spiritual friend, or the Dharma-protecting king, etc., headed by the patrons of merit, to heed us. Thus, the patrons of merit make offerings to the Lama and the Three Jewels, offer torma to the Dakinis and the assembly of Dharma protectors, give alms to the assembly of beings, and erect wondrous supports of body, speech, and mind. Adorning them with inconceivable clouds of offerings, they emanate merit equal to the expanse of Dharma. Furthermore, the bodies and enjoyments of the patrons of merit and other beings to be tamed, as well as all virtuous things of the three times—past, present, and future—the inner, outer, and secret realities, are offered as clouds of offerings, like those arising from the liberation of the conduct of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra. This offering, which is in accordance with this, is offered to your sight, who are called 'This Unsurpassed Kindness.' May you accept all that is offered, and may your profound intention be completely fulfilled, rising higher and higher. In the pure realm where you reside, may inconceivable clouds of offerings arise and increase. May all your worldly and transcendental wishes be spontaneously accomplished. When you engage in the vast conduct of a Bodhisattva, may all obstacles to your body, speech, mind, and activities be pacified.
