Being fully devoted to the Dharma, etc. These can avert untimely death; while death from exhaustion of lifespan is when the karma that propels it is exhausted. This can be averted by the path of directly realizing emptiness, because the death of karma and afflictions has been abandoned. It is said that after a Shravaka Arhat attains it, they can bless a lifespan for a kalpa; after attaining the ultimate of meditative concentration, they have the power to take and relinquish life at will; and it is said that yogis who are inwardly focused can avert death from exhaustion of lifespan by relying on the instructions for working with the winds and vital force. The second case is that for the benefit of great people such as kings, based on the supplication for remembrance and the dedication of aspiration, add: 'The patron of offerings, so-and-so, for the sake of prolonging life, thus offers to the Lama and the Three Jewels, makes offerings to the ocean of assemblies, gives charity to the poor and helpless, recites mantras and meditates on profound emptiness, redeems the lives of those who die untimely deaths, protects those threatened by fear, practices profound inner yoga, properly relies on the life-sustaining sage, and relies on the power and ability of the medical rituals that come from the science of life, may the Lama or King so-and-so be free from illness and have a long life! May the single and combined diseases be pacified in the nature of reality! May the mountain of the body be utterly stable! May the rays of speech radiate in the ten directions! May the ocean of mind be completely full! May the sun of activity never set! May the cool rays of compassion be equally bestowed on all! May the messengers of untimely death and the noose of the terminator be turned far away! May all harmful actions be destroyed by the vajra of emptiness! May the attainments of immortality fall like rain! May the nectar of wisdom increase the power of life! May the deities of the Yidam avert the Mara of the Lord of Death with the yoga of the generation stage! May the yoga of the completion stage liberate the afflictions in their own place! May the great ship of hearing, thinking, and meditating bring us to the end of the four oceans of birth, old age, sickness, and death! May the supreme accomplishment of the Vidyadhara who has power over life be able to make all beings happy!' Say this three times. Year. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

'Living a hundred years and seeing a hundred autumns.' Thus, a single verse was spoken. Activities for increasing merit: The second part includes accumulating the causes for increasing merit and aspiring for the perfection of its results. The first part is: the three types of giving, namely, giving of Dharma, material things, and fearlessness; ethics, namely, abandoning the ten non-virtuous actions, practicing the ten virtuous actions, and avoiding inferior thoughts; diligence, namely, diligently practicing the ten virtuous actions and tirelessly cultivating loving-kindness and the mind of enlightenment. Also, abiding in the samadhi of the two selflessnesses, and all these together with their retinues. The second part is: based on invoking witnesses and generating aspirational thoughts, may I (or others), the merit-maker named [so-and-so], through offering and honoring the Three Jewels, make them rejoice, through material giving satisfy beings, newly create the supports of body, speech, and mind of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and through the immaculate well-spoken words of scriptures and treatises, create favorable conditions for the wise to rejoice, expound the Dharma with a mind that does not crave gain and honor, cultivate the four immeasurables with an equanimous mind, harmonize hundreds of thousands of Sangha members in the direction of the Dharma, and purify the mind by exchanging self and others' good and bad deeds, etc. Through the power and strength of these merits, may I (or others), the merit-maker, teacher, king, or patron, etc., named [so-and-so], have glory and wealth in accordance with the Dharma, and may it increase and grow. May we freely enjoy the inexhaustible treasure of merit. May we be able to fulfill the wishes of sentient beings as they desire through the power of great merit. May we always spontaneously incline towards the ten virtuous Dharmas. May there be no obstacles or hindrances in governing one's territory and disciples with the precepts of the ten virtuous Dharmas. May the powerful command of speaking the truth not be overcome by any false speech. May we be able to raise the banner of the Three Jewels through fully embracing the glory of a universal monarch. May we be able to fulfill the wishes of the poor... the protectorless... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
