Oh! Where to plant? Plant on the special field, which is the Alaya-vijnana (kun gzhi, the basis of everything). With what to plant? Plant with dedication (bsngo ba, transfer of merit). How to plant? By making the fruit potent and powerful to produce. Fruits are divided into two types: ultimate and temporary. The first is the fruit of liberation, which is dedicated to any of the three Bodhis (byang chub gsum po, Sravaka Bodhi, Pratyekabuddha Bodhi, Bodhisattva Bodhi). The merit dedicated to this will not be exhausted in the Bardo (bar ma do, the state between death and rebirth), so it is called inexhaustible merit. Temporary fruits include: the fruit that is the same as the cause, which is great merit (bsod nams, merit); the Vipaka fruit, which is the happiness of high status; and the Adhipati fruit, which is enjoying good lands, etc. These three fruits, if they are contaminated merits, will naturally arise even if they are not dedicated if they do not encounter the conditions for growth, so it is not a true dedication, because they are dedicated to the cause of Samsara. Because of this, it will not be exhausted by dedication, so dedicating to any of the three Bodhis, according to the capacity of the disciples, is the main meaning of dedication. The benefits of such dedication are inconceivable, just like those that come from the 'Samantabhadra's Prayer' (bzang po spyod pa'i smon lam). Therefore, aspiring to attain perfect Bodhi is dedication, and aspiring to benefit sentient beings is aspiration (smon lam, wish). How to express the dedication verbally, general practice: Second, the order of verbal expression is: like this, it should be said 'Please the Sangha recite the verse of dedication', because without the blessing of the Sangha, dedication is impossible to accomplish. It should also be said 'Please all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas listen', because by making such a promise in front of them, the vows will be more firm, and the promise will be fulfilled, just like taking vows. With me (name) as the gatherer of merit, through such practice, for the benefit of beings as vast as space, may I be able to attain the state of the Dharma King (chos kyi rgyal po) Bhagavan (bcom ldan 'das, the Blessed One) Buddha, who possesses the three bodies (sku gsum, Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, Nirmanakaya) and five wisdoms (ye shes lnga, Dharmadhatu Wisdom, Mirror-like Wisdom, Equality Wisdom, Discriminating Wisdom, Accomplishing Wisdom). May I perfect the great conduct of the Bodhisattva at all times and places.' It should be said like this, the first sentence is to generate the Bodhicitta of aspiration, so that the realm of the doer of good deeds, the essence of the Sugata, increases in power, is able to transform into the Dharmakaya, and that the accumulation of merit can benefit others. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The second is dedicated to the cause of accomplishing both, and the two feet are for generating the mind towards the path of enlightenment by the virtuous practitioner. Therefore, the first dedication is called 'Aspiration for Bodhisattva Conduct,' and the second is called 'Aspiration for Samantabhadra's Conduct.' Both of these dedications must be done by the dedicator himself, that is, the virtuous practitioner himself. If one does not generate this intention within oneself, even if others dedicate on one's behalf, bodhicitta will not arise when one aspires to enter. Rejoicing, however, needs to be done by many monastics, because through the power of their truth, that aspiration is easier to accomplish. If one is not skilled in dedicating in this way, one can also ask a spiritual friend or others to teach: 'Patron, please generate this intention and dedicate it.' It is also sufficient to generate the intention as instructed, just as the practice of dedication is done now. These aspirations for entering dedication need to be recited three times, because at that time, it becomes a particularly special Bodhisattva vow. The main content of the dedication is sufficient up to this point. If one wants to add more aspirations, one can elaborate as described in the 'Samantabhadra's Conduct,' 'Maitreya's Aspiration,' and the dedication chapter of 'Entering the Bodhisattva's Path.' If one needs to be brief, reciting the single verse 'Just as Mañjuśrī knows' is sufficient, because it is said that it contains countless aspirations of Bodhisattvas. Therefore, in general, there are two types of actions: actions for the living and actions for the dead. Actions for the Living: The first is to act for longevity, and the second is to act for increasing merit. Acting for Longevity: First, it is divided into two: accumulating the cause of life, and aspiring to accomplish the result with that cause. The first is further divided into two: eliminating obstacles and facilitating favorable conditions. The first is: avoiding killing others, avoiding robbing all the conditions for survival, and persuading others to avoid it, and rejoicing in others' avoidance, and so on. The second is: pleasing the Three Jewels by offering them with wealth and respect, enabling others to live long with the necessities of life, entering the mandala of Amitāyus (Tibetan: Tshe dpag med, Sanskrit transliteration: Amitāyus, literal meaning: Immeasurable Life) and receiving empowerment, reciting profound Dhāraṇī (Tibetan: gzungs, Sanskrit transliteration: Dhāraṇī, literal meaning: retention) and mantra (Tibetan: sngags, Sanskrit transliteration: mantra, literal meaning: true word), and meditating on the meaning of emptiness, and so on. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
