Therefore, the meaning of this aspiration is to grasp the essence of the scriptures. As the scripture says: 'Having heard this excellent King of Aspiration'. There are three points here: the content of the aspiration, the object of the aspiration, and how to make the aspiration. The first point is all the merits from prostration to praying not to enter Nirvana. The second point is to achieve Buddhahood for the ultimate benefit of all sentient beings, to temporarily offer to the Buddhas of the past and present and their retinues, and for the future Buddhas to descend quickly, etc., as stated in the scriptures. The third point is to make aspirations like Samantabhadra and Manjushri. The salutation of translation The second is the salutation of translation: Homage to Manjushri Kumara. This is to say, paying homage to what is said in the fundamental realization of Manjushri Bodhisattva, that the venerable Manjushri benefited sentient beings in the form of an eight-year-old boy. Although he is being saluted here, it is not that the translator is paying homage to the deity he believes in, nor is it to comply with the old regulations. So what is it? This is because the Samantabhadra's conduct and vows were first taught by Manjushri to Nuosang, and Nuosang heard this aspiration because he saw Samantabhadra and relied on Manjushri Kumara as a virtuous spiritual friend. This was produced by the power of his blessing, as clearly stated in the Sutra. The meaning of the scripture: the root of virtue for aspiration, etc. Third, the meaning of the scripture has three points: the root of virtue for aspiration, etc.; dedicating the accumulated merits to complete Bodhi ultimately and dedicating to Samantabhadra's aspiration temporarily; and ensuring that the dedicated merits are not wasted. The first point has six aspects: prostrating to the Tathagata, then offering to the Tathagata, then confessing sins, rejoicing in all good deeds, urging to turn the wheel of the Dharma, and praying to stay in the world permanently. The first point is divided into two aspects: universally prostrating through the three doors of body, speech, and mind, and separating the three and prostrating separately. Prostrating to the Tathagata The first point is: 'I prostrate', this is just the sound of expressing meaning. To whom do I prostrate? 'All without exception', this is the object to be done. Who does it? 'I', this is the actor. In what way? 'With body, speech, and mind', these are the words of origin. These are the scriptures. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Actually grasped. Why? As it is said: 'Whose name is Samantabhadra (kuntuzang), behaves like the wise.' This is quoted, therefore. The seventh word, as it is said: 'In grammar books, the word that indicates relationship, although not actually existing, is obtained through meaning from the case.' As said, this is obtained through implication. The seventh locative word indicates 'in the ten directions of the world', which is the word indicating where the Tathagatas, the objects of worship, are located. Then, what does 'without remainder' refer to? It refers to 'the Sugatas of the three times, lions among men.' Then, what is its quantity? It is 'all', indicating countless numbers. Where are they? It is 'the ten directions of the world.' Are these ten directions also just one direction each? It is 'as many as', indicating an indefinite number. The three times are: past, future, and present. Sugatas are those who have already come, will come, and are coming at that time. Among them, the past has passed away and is no longer an object of worship; the future is not yet worthy of offering, so it is not an object of worship. Preventing this thought, there is a need to eliminate the obscurations caused by pride. 'Lions among men' refers to: appearing in the form of a human, without fear, able to take away the courage of others, so it is called that. Here, 'all' and 'all without remainder' are not repetitions, but supplements, as it says in other scriptures: 'To all the holy ones without remainder and without omission.' Then, offering to them. The second part has three aspects: physical prostration, mental prostration, and verbal prostration. First, it was said earlier 'with body, speech, and mind', so how to prostrate with the body? That is, through the way of extreme devotion in the heart, prostrating with the body. Explaining this, 'prostration' is the basis of explanation, first just expressing the meaning. Who is the object of prostration? It is all the Victorious Ones (rgyal ba). Through what is it done? It is through the bodies equal to the number of dust particles in the Buddha-field sea, extremely bowing down. In what way? It is through the way of making all the Victorious Ones manifest in the mind, extremely. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
