This is because of inequality and other reasons. If one considers the four seasons to be equal, that is also unreasonable. If it were reasonable, then a day and night in winter would only have twenty-four 'yud' (Tibetan unit of time), while a day and night in summer would have thirty-six 'yud'. If someone says that there is no problem with this, because we do not always assume it to be so, but rather at the time of the autumnal and vernal equinoxes, when day and night are equal, we assume that the sun appears at noon simultaneously. Some teachers who believe that the seasons are mixed up in the four continents say that the previous system is unacceptable because when the sun travels a long distance and has a large circumference in the four continents, the sun is short; and when the sun has a small circumference and travels a short distance in the four continents, the sun is long, which is considered to be denying the obvious. Moreover, the difference in the strength of the wind that propels during the southern and northern journeys cannot be explained. Therefore, the seasons are mixed up in the four continents. In Jambudvipa (the southern continent), in winter, the sun travels to the southernmost point; in the east, the autumnal equinox has equal day and night; in the north, in the land of unpleasant sounds, in summer, the sun travels to the northernmost point; and in the west, Godhaniya (the western continent) has the vernal equinox with equal day and night, and these are the four seasons. This system does not have the fault of the sun appearing at noon simultaneously, because in this continent, the morning and afternoon at the southernmost point have nine 'yud' each. At the time of the autumnal equinox in the east, the morning has nine 'yud' and the afternoon has six 'yud'. At the time of the vernal equinox in the western continent, the morning has six 'yud' and the afternoon has nine 'yud'. The reason for this is that the afternoon is longer in spring, the morning is longer in autumn, and there is no difference in length between the morning and afternoon in summer and winter, which is an obvious fact and does not require other arguments. If someone says that the term 'noon' will become confused, there is no problem, because when the sun reaches the exact center of the continent, the term 'noon' is used. Furthermore, some teachers who believe that the four seasons are half mixed up and half equal, such as the learned scholars of the central region and Jamyang Gekpo, say that the way in which the first system is unacceptable is the same as before. They assume that the morning and afternoon of the autumnal and vernal equinoxes have different lengths, which is also inconsistent with the obvious facts. If it is winter here, and it is spring in the west and autumn in the east, then it would be acceptable. However, if it is winter here, then... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
