It is evident that day and night are equal at all times, as there is a difference before and after the first day of each month. This is also the case in calculations. Therefore, in three years, the winter solstice occurs on any day from the eighth day of the eleventh month to the eighth day of the twelfth month in the Hor calendar. The vernal equinox occurs on any day from the eighth day of the second month to the eighth day of the third month in the Hor calendar. The summer solstice occurs on any day from the eighth day of the fifth month to the eighth day of the sixth month. After that, there will be a leap month, and then it will return to the previous month. Worldly people believe that the winter solstice, vernal equinox, and summer solstice occur on the eighth day of each month. The former wise ones should know this.’ This is also consistent with calculations. The *Later Treatise of Medical Science* says: ‘The winter solstice is considered the middle month of winter, and the summer solstice is considered the middle month of summer.’ 2. Explanation of the Three Seasons According to the Treatise System: (1) Main Text Second, explaining the three seasons according to the treatise system. It includes the main text and the way to make twelve months from it. First, in general, the reason for the difference in the division of seasons between the two systems is that worldly people divide spring, summer, autumn, and winter into three levels, upper, middle, and lower, thus dividing them into four seasons. Or divide winter into two parts, early spring, summer, and autumn into six parts. These views are also accepted by the scriptures. As the *Golden Light Sutra* says: ‘Three months are summer, three months are known as autumn, three are winter, and three are spring. The order of the months is these six seasons.’ In the treatises, mainly three seasons are explained, and sometimes for the sake of need, these three seasons are listed separately for explanation, sometimes these three seasons are divided into six parts, and sometimes these three seasons are divided into five parts for explanation. As the *King's Son Sutra* says: ‘There are only three seasons in the scriptures, not six as in the world. Because early winter is similar to cold, it is classified as winter. Early spring is similar to heat, so it is classified as spring. Autumn is classified as summer because it rains.’ Thus, there are winter, spring, and summer. Dividing a year into three seasons, or dividing it into five seasons, is only a saying in the scriptures, not popular in the world. Therefore, in the treatise system, regarding knowledge, four seasons and six seasons are divisions of the three seasons. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Although I also acknowledge this based on tradition, it is called worldly custom because it is acknowledged according to worldly fame. Dividing the three times into six and then condensing the six into three is mentioned in the Vinaya, Abhisamayalankara, and Kalachakra. As it is said in the commentary on the Abhidharmakosha: 'Winter, spring, and summer, after half a month and two months have passed, when half a month remains, the wise should abandon the unbearable day.' The Vinaya Sutra says: 'One day and night are not enough, it should be at the time when half a month of the seasons remains.' The large commentary on the Kalachakra says: 'When the sun stays in any one house, it will be divided into twelve parts, forming six periods and twelve months, and twenty-four directions, due to the rotation of the house.' In short, from the scriptures, it can be seen that there are four different ways of dividing the seasons, two of which are only known in the treatises, and the other two are common with worldly fame. Second, regarding the way of dividing into twelve months: According to worldly people, the first month of winter, etc., is divided into twelve months, and the waxing moon comes first. As it is said in the sutra: 'One should promise to stay in retreat, on the sixteenth day, the middle month of summer.' etc., there is extensive explanation. In the world, there are also sayings of the fifteenth and twentieth days, etc. In the Surya Siddhanta, it is also said that the waxing moon comes first in the first, middle, and last months of spring. In addition, in the Dharma cycle of the Vinaya, when dividing the first, middle, and last months, there is also one saying that the waxing moon comes first. As it is said in the questions about the novice monk's year: 'What is the one day and night of the shortest summer?' Answer: 'It is the one day and night of the first day of the first month of autumn.' Here, too, it is a mixture of two customs, and the division of the first, middle, etc., months is not completely independent. In addition, in the root sutra, it is also said that the waxing moon comes first, and in the minor commentary, it is said that the sixteenth day of the last month of summer is the shortest period of summer, etc., these are independent divisions of the first, middle, and last three months, and this should be made the dominant one. So, which star will be associated with the lunar mansions of the first, middle, and last months when the moon is full? The Surya Siddhanta Sutra says: 'The month in which the lunar mansion is associated with the Krittika star when the moon is full is called the first month of winter, the month in which the lunar mansion is associated with the Revati star when the moon is full is called the last month of autumn, this is the worldly saying.' This is just an example, not all times are like this. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
