Ah, good! Because the tutelary deity is the guide to the heart essence, I thought, when will I be able to obtain the merits of this Lama? So I put the rosary around my neck and returned home. I gave the previous documents to the two maids and gave them dual advice. The two of them said: Why are you doing this? Please take us both to where you are going. They started crying. I said: The auspiciousness is good, I am going on a pilgrimage in a few days, why are you two crying? At that time, we will hold a feast and go to invite guests for about a month. I gave it to you because I was afraid that the documents would be lost during that time. Am I thinking of going somewhere else? It is difficult to decide on previous matters. After speaking, I thought that the night of the twenty-seventh of that month was the time to leave, so I secretly bought barley wine and fed it to the two maids. The two of them got drunk and said that there was a place to sleep at the door, so let's sleep there. They did so. I got up and took off all my headdress, jewelry, and clothes. I put on a new robe of the maid, and wore my silk clothes inside. Apart from that, I didn't take anything. I thought that the sugar and fruits given by my father could be used as dry food on the path of practice, so I only took those things hidden in the handbag. I broke the door facing the sun, came out from inside, and slowly descended from the two stairs of the three-story building. Because there were guards at the gate of the palace, I couldn't escape. Although it was as high as one floor, I jumped out from above, and both ankles felt pain. Thinking that I would be discovered by my family, I recited "Jetsun Dolma, have mercy" and held my breath and walked forward. On the way, I encountered ghosts running fast, and one named "Donkey Hoof Tip," with a donkey's head and a monk's body, wearing a monk's robe and apron, etc. I encountered many kinds of ghosts that people usually see, but I did not feel afraid or timid, and kept walking forward. I arrived at a place called "Bride Mountain," where there is a Gesar Lhakhang, a rock on the side of the road, a large river in front, and sand dunes and plains on the left and right. Vam!

The chief of those places was terrifying, showing gleaming white teeth and clenching his jaws. His two breasts were flung over his left and right shoulders, and with both hands together he was eating a human head dripping with blood. They were emitting a bluish-green flame, and uttering "Habsha, Habsha" from their mouths while being invisible. I was so frightened that I couldn't move forward, and thought that if I went back for some reason, I might never escape from household affairs. If I went on, would they eat me? Then I remembered the habit of practicing illusory emptiness from before, and without hesitation, I set out on the path in a state of self-other emptiness combined. As a result, all of them, master and retinue, vanished with a "shush" sound. I traveled quickly like a wild horse covering ground, and the next day at noon, I caught up with the monks from Ü (Central Tibet) above Tölung Tsurphu (Tölung Dechen County). Everyone was talking, but I couldn't understand them. When I spoke, they couldn't understand either. I thought to myself, these people are not human in form, but they are wearing leather clothes. When they speak, they are like uncivilized barbarians, so it seems difficult to spread the Great Perfection teachings in their region. However, if I pray to the master Drimé Özer (Vimalamitra), I will surely accomplish the pure dying practice. Even if not, if I can pass away in the presence of a noble being like Rinpoche, I will surely attain the state of non-regression. I comforted myself in this way and continued on, and on the way I met a nun named Jikdrön. She said, "You crazy woman, why are you following us? You have no food or clothes, so if you don't die from hunger and cold, don't blame heaven." I said, "If I am destined to die, what difference does it make whether I stay at home or wander the country?" She said, "What is your purpose in coming? Did the tulkus (incarnate lamas) tell you to come? If not, you are happy and have great wealth and enjoyment at home, so why come here?" I said again, "In any case, I have no freedom to stay in my own home. The plan to go on pilgrimage on the thirteenth day of the New Year has already been made, so before that, I decided baṃ (藏文种子字,梵文天城体:बं,梵文罗马拟音:baṃ,汉语字面意思:班)! to wander to the ends of the earth."
