Neither virtuous nor non-virtuous actions can be done by either. In terms of the obscuring nature, there is not even a little bit of good or bad. As the Omniscient One said: "O Sun of the ultimate meaning of self-originated awareness, obscured by the clouds of virtue and vice, black and white. From the flashing of lightning that strives to accept and reject, the stream of rain of illusory happiness and suffering falls. The seeds of samsara grow, and the crops of the six realms flourish. Alas, the wretched beings, how pitiful! For the ultimate, definitive essence, like golden fetters and rope fetters are the same. Dharma and non-dharma, the mind's fetters are the same. When there are no black or white clouds, the sun of ultimate meaning rises in the sky of the Dharmadhatu." As it is said. Furthermore, regarding the methods of gods who benefit and protect, etc., and establishing gods who benefit, by examining the three aspects of where they first arise, where they dwell in the middle, and where they ultimately go, there is no place to be found. If a god appears in the realm of the senses, then there must be a way to say what the god's form, sound, smell, taste, and touch are, but that is not truly established. If you think that it arises from the elements of the container and its contents, for example, if you take the earth element, and break the earth down into dust, and the dust into smaller particles, and then into nothingness, you would still say "earth," but there is absolutely no way that the so-called "god" could arise from within it. Similarly, the elements are given their own individual names, but they are not called "gods." If you think they are different, if the god is non-material, then there is no way that it can benefit a material self. If the god is material, then there is no way that you would not be aware of the god helping you and supporting you. If you are aware of it at that time, then the god's shape, color, etc., must be visible to the eyes, tangible to the hands, and manifest at the gate of the senses, but that is not the case. If it is a powerful local deity, residing on this mountain, and you think that it brings benefit, then how does it bring benefit? If the mountain is the god, then when protecting you, the mountain should appear and protect you, otherwise it cannot bring benefit. If the god is in a cave in the mountain, then there must be a path to get in. Otherwise, if you dig into the earth and go in, you will surely find it. If the god is under the mountain, then if you dig into the earth and look, you will surely find it, but that is not the case. If you have been making offerings, incense offerings, and raising prayer flags since the time of your ancestors, then you will receive help and support.

It is like this. If you think that not propitiating the gods will cause illness and unpleasant things to happen, then formless gods have no way to help those with form. If a god has form, when offering incense with good wood and silk offerings, they should enjoy it, but that is not the case. The smoke from the incense disappears into the air, and the burnt offerings turn to ashes, leaving nothing behind except being carried away by the wind. Similarly, the so-called wind horse flags, all the various colored cloth strips that are planted, are also damaged every year, some are rotted by water, some are scattered, and are eroded by rain and disappear, but in reality, there is no god who actually uses them, which is obvious. Or, if you think that there is a very terrifying cliff somewhere, and I went there, and because of digging the earth and quarrying stones, caused unimaginable hail, thunder, and lightning, and I would be killed. For example, last night in your dream, you encountered a very terrifying local deity, with the mountain top covered in snow, the mountain waist occupied by cliffs, and the mountain foot covered in forests, and then you cut down sacred trees, cut sacred wood, cut sacred grass, dug sacred earth, scooped sacred water with containers, and so on. If this is the cause, immediately a puff of smoke like a yak's tail rises from the cliff and goes into the sky, and in an instant, unimaginable thunder and lightning appear, which is unbearable. However, not even a single hailstone has fallen today during the day. This is similar to the above situation, so the so-called beneficial god is just your illusion. In reality, it has no basis, and not even a tiny bit of true existence has been established. If you think that this means that the existence of gods cannot be proven, that is not the case. Because from the power of one's own realization, proving that something that does not exist exists, is from the realm of non-existence, through the gate of the senses, manifesting. Therefore, the cause for proving the existence of obvious gods is within oneself, so it can be achieved. If you do not recognize this, and think that gods exist elsewhere, and regard gods as independent entities and try to prove them, it is like blowing into a yak horn, or shouting in an empty valley, there is no difference. Therefore, whatever god you prove, understand your own awareness.
