have been used in ignorance. If you think there is no need to determine good and evil, it is not determined for the sake of not doing good or for the sake of doing evil. If good is not determined in this way, the path to liberation and the merit of accumulating merit in samsara will be confused, and the fruit of omniscience will not be attained. If evil is not determined, one will not know that one's own nature is obscured by ignorance and that evil is the root of error, so one can only be confused in endless samsara. Therefore, determining good and evil is of utmost importance. Therefore, if you think that no matter what good or evil is accumulated, no result will occur, that is not the case. Because this white thought that is considered good is the basis, the subtle part of the Tathagatagarbha. No matter what good is accumulated by body, speech, and mind, even if one can only attain the status of gods and humans in the happy realms, one will not be able to approach the path of omniscience even by a hair's breadth, and will be bound by this fault. Through the four ways of basis, thought, action, and ultimate, no matter what non-virtuous actions are accumulated, because the branches of evil are complete, under the influence of any strong or weak motivation of the three poisons of greed, hatred, and delusion, the result will be thrown into the three lower realms. But no matter which of the two, one cannot transcend samsara, so it is only accumulating merit in samsara. If one goes to an uninhabited empty place for the sake of the next life, when practicing emptiness, because there is no experience or attachment, his mind will not be satisfied. He will also pursue other seemingly profound, contaminated virtues, or when he sees the merits of practicing emptiness, he will abide in the meaning of emptiness, and so on. Just as sewing cannot be done with two needle points, and nothing can be accomplished with two minds. Because one will be bound by the fault of not being able to gain certainty in the meaning of Dharma, that is the reason why good and evil must be determined, not because of the afflictions of attachment and hatred. If one uses the actions of the three kinds of ignorance, even if one can accomplish some contaminated virtues, that is certainly good. Otherwise, the meaning of Dharma is incomparable to any virtue. When abiding in that meaning, the virtue of artificial thought and the virtue of human
