The reason is: The so-called self of sentient beings, for us, whether in the appearance of day, the appearance of night, the appearance of dreams, the intermediate state, or any time in future lives, this state of "I" appearing as true. TI1398-030 7ZEUP¤Z In short, the latent consciousness that initially grasps "I", at certain times, is clarified by subsequent consciousness and conceptual thoughts, and the attachment that arises in a stable and clinging manner is self-grasping. Second, by understanding selflessness, There are four ways to establish the reason: First, examine the source of origin; second, look for the essence of the self during its existence; third, transcend the ultimate destination; fourth, show examples of things that appear and are spoken of even though they do not exist. First, examining the source of origin: If the self exists, then where do the phenomena of the inner and outer world, especially the components of one's own body and mind, originate from? What is the nature of the originator, that is, the master of oneself? After examination, it ultimately leads to a place where there is no source of origin. Second, looking for the essence of the self during its existence: If the self exists, then the dwelling place and the dweller must be distinct from each other, clearly distinguishable, and things with true self-nature. In order to determine whether this is the case, one should examine it in this way: What is the so-called "self"? The head is the head, not the self. The scalp and bones, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, teeth, brain, flesh and blood, body fluids, veins, etc., which are part of the head, are also not the self. Similarly, the hand and its components, the scapula, arm, wrist, fingers, etc., as well as the spine, ribs, chest, lungs, heart, liver, gallbladder, spleen, intestines, kidneys, urine and feces, etc., and the feet and their components, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, toes, etc., in general, the outer skin of the body, the middle flesh and fat, the inner bones, and the secret collection of bones are not the self. Likewise, Consciousness is also not the self, because consciousness can only be called consciousness, and cannot be called the self. Therefore, the so-called "self" is not established, and the dwelling place cannot be found, because there is no dwelling place and master, so it should be recognized that its nature is emptiness. Third, transcending the ultimate destination: Similarly, the so-called "self", after examining its destination and the essence of the goer himself, thereby transcends the destination and the master.
