Therefore, the so-called mind is inherently separate from any basis or root. There is not even a hair's breadth of truly existent substance in what is called the place of arising or the one who arises. The nature of mind is inherently free from the three—arising, ceasing, and abiding. Therefore, all the dualistic thoughts of grasping and being grasped that appear as mind and mental events dissolve into nowhere. The very nature of mind transcends speech, thought, and expression, and is free from all affirmations of existence and non-existence. Therefore, realizing the meaning of the unborn Dharmakaya, the nature of being without basis or root and all-pervasive throughout samsara and nirvana, is the manifestation of the meaning that the characteristic nature of mind is unestablished. Second, examining where the mind abides: When this present mind arises outwardly as all the appearances of the environment and its inhabitants, and inwardly examines and analyzes everything from the top of one's head to the tips of one's toes, inside, outside, and in between, one does not see a place where the mind abides. If one thinks there is a place where it abides, then that mind must have a shape, color, and so on, and must exist as a truly existent substance, but that is not the case. Therefore, the characteristic nature of mind has no truly existent substance, not even the smallest particle. From the very moment it appears, it vanishes without a trace from its own place, like snow falling on a rock. Therefore, to ascertain that the place of abiding and the one who abides are non-dual and free from grasping at an identity is to comprehend the meaning of clear emptiness without obstruction. Third, examining where the mind goes: When the present mind is separated from abiding, even though not even a particle of difference between the object and the subject is established, if one is still not satisfied with just that and thinks there is a place to go, then by examining and analyzing outwardly the environment of the world—earth, stones, mountains, rocks, and so on—and inwardly one's own body, from the hair on one's head down to the nails on one's toes, and in between the four directions, the four intermediate directions, above, below, and so on, in whatever direction one goes, and by trying to identify the shape and so on of that mind that goes to a place, and by establishing its beginning, middle, and end, one will see that the so-called mind, wherever it goes, is not truly existent, and one will determine that all the appearances of the environment and its inhabitants are made by the mind, thereby determining that what is grasped is the selflessness of phenomena.

Coming. Because there is no mind of the practitioner, realizing the certainty of having no object nature, the false cave of ego is empty. The nature of mind is awareness and emptiness, free from coming and going, manifesting as the great wisdom that pervades everything. Because of understanding the meaning of awareness being free from the three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding, it is said: In any of the ten directions and four times, one cannot find the perfect Buddha. The nature of mind is the perfect Buddha, do not seek the Buddha elsewhere. So it is said. Second, introducing the mind in the union of clarity and emptiness. Therefore, here, the mind is introduced as being primordially empty, rootless, and the great original purity. It is included in the four key instructions. What are the four key instructions? Introducing the self-nature in the present moment, cutting through at once, abiding in the certainty of liberation, and abiding in the manifested state. Therefore, here, first introducing the self-nature in the present moment. The present awareness is free from speech, thought, and expression, transcends the mind's intellect, is difficult to fathom, and is free from the identification of names and characteristics, this uncompounded emptiness and clarity. This is the great self-born wisdom, the manifestation of the intention of the Dharmakaya, original purity. As it is said in the Madhyamaka: Intention transcends the mind, the named is pure in its own place, free from the extremes of emptiness and existence, the mind ceases, transcends thought. Therefore, the present awareness, without mixing any mental fabrication, awareness abides in an unmade natural state, recognizing that this is self-born wisdom. The intention of the Dharmakaya, which transcends the mind, abides unshakably in the state of being free from three of the four parts, all past and future thoughts and reflections are known as the radiance of awareness, the play of wisdom. For any appearance, without accepting or rejecting, negating or affirming, cutting through at once, abiding in a state free from elaboration. Therefore, all appearances and arising, like bubbles dissolving into water, arise and dissolve on their own, and awareness transforms into wisdom. The appearance of the world, the intention of manifesting the great foundation, in that state, the certainty of awareness is cut off at the moment of liberation, abiding in the Dharmadhatu of the equality of the three bodies, not a liberation from cause to effect, as it is said: The self-mind is called liberation. There is no going from one place to another, and is not liberated by anything.
