. After saying this, it was as if he disappeared. Because it arises from the ignorance and habitual tendencies of clinging to characteristics of benefit and harm, therefore, with the wisdom of individual discernment, attacking the faults of clinging to the truth of benefit and harm is a particularly excellent instruction. This is also an intermediate verse summarizing the main points. Fourth, there are three ways to collapse the false cave of hope and fear: First, in the realm of hope, the Buddha-field with qualities, collapsing the false cave of clinging to reality; Second, in the realm of fear, the abodes and kinds of sentient beings with happiness and suffering, collapsing the false cave of clinging to reality; Third, praising the realization that the objects of hope and fear are without inherent nature, shown by the glorification of names. The first has three parts: refuting the clinging to extremes regarding the Buddha-field and its attributes; in this, refuting the imputation of truth by means of the five doors and the manner of being complete with objects; identifying the Buddha of definitive meaning according to one's own system. The first, refuting the clinging to extremes regarding the Buddha-field and its attributes: These instructions were spoken when meeting the great glorious Vajrapani in the appearance of clear light, namely, the so-called Buddha is the basis appearing in the manner of being enlightened from the very beginning. It is not like what we hold now, that there is a self-sufficient person who is established as a real entity in another place. Ah! If one thinks that the so-called Buddha is in a vast place, a handsome king, seeing him brings nothing but joy, peaceful, cool, clear, free from turbidity, beautiful, whose appearance is so pleasing that one never tires of seeing him, then who are his father and mother? If born from a mother, then he has the extreme of birth; if he abides, then he has the extreme of abiding; if he ceases, then he has the extreme of annihilation. The key points of these meanings need to be understood in detail from the oral instructions. For the time being, to explain it easily, as long as the three, birth, abiding, and cessation, exist in a self-sufficient and truly established manner, there is no way there can be a reality that is free from the two extremes. How these appearances appear like birth and cessation is merely imputation. Upward, even in the aspect of pure liberation, if one clings to it as real, then one binds oneself. If there is a difference between the nature of samsara and nirvana, then the so-called reality of equality between samsara and nirvana is just talk. Many people cling to the self-characterized nirvana and enter the box of hope and fear. The pure realm

Having many forms of enjoyment, and being distinguished by vast arrangements, if one clings to the self-nature of things, that also belongs to the clinging to the self of phenomena. Second, refuting the imputation of truth by means of the five senses together with their objects: To regard the Tathagata as permanent and truly established, no matter what name is given, in essence, it does not go beyond clinging to the self of a person. If one thinks that the Buddha has eyes, then there must also be eye consciousness. Once eye consciousness is established, there is no way to prevent the appearance of forms, then the object taken by eye consciousness is called an object, Once this is established, there is no way to prevent the arising of subtle thoughts that grasp forms. That is, the grasping of the eye is mind, and the discrimination between the grasper and the grasped is called mind, Wherever there is mind, there is called a sentient being. Similarly, if one thinks there are ears, then there is ear consciousness together with sound; if one thinks there is a nose, then there is nose consciousness together with smell; if one thinks there is a tongue, then there is tongue consciousness together with taste; if one thinks there is a body, then there is body consciousness together with touch, all of these are the objects to be grasped, and the collections of discriminating thoughts that grasp those objects are their grasping minds, as before, wherever these exist, there is called a sentient being. Therefore, one should not cling to appearing as a Buddha in a way that possesses these. Third, identifying the definitive meaning of the Buddha according to one's own system: The Buddha is beyond the nature of grasper and grasped, if there is a Buddha who is not like that, then even if his qualities enter sentient beings, he will not surpass ordinary people and non-humans. If one clings to the Buddha teaching the Dharma to others, then there must be a speaker self, the Dharma to be taught, and the sentient beings to be taught appearing and clinging, then it is a sentient being. If one clings to characteristics such as a peaceful realm, beautiful form, good friends, great enjoyment and happiness, and absence of anger and attachment, then it is no better than the gods of the form realm. In the definitive sense, one's own ground, Samantabhadra, is called the Sugata of the three times. In the ultimate sense, Buddha destroys
