It is not straying into one's own continuum. Second, the peg of samadhi is: To firmly establish the pride of knowing oneself as the deity. That is, before that, while wandering in samsara, the latent consciousness of grasping at the appearance of beings' bodies as self is self-grasping. It is the agent of all appearances and minds, so as an antidote to that, visualizing one's body as a deity, and constantly maintaining the pride of knowing oneself as a deity without interruption, when a clear appearance arises, finally the degree of clear stability becomes the expanse of the eight consciousnesses. It is certain that it becomes huge in the field of manifest seeing and touching. As Vajradhara said: With unwavering devotion for six months, one will attain the ground of Vajradhara. Like that. Moreover, it should not be mixed with worldly speech, the warmth of the cushion should not disappear, and the consciousness should not be distracted elsewhere. As the tantra says: The peg of samadhi is the crown of the head, hold the mind one-pointedly, without distraction. Like that, practicing without laziness is the peg of samadhi. Third, the peg of view is: From the Dharmakaya Samantabhadra above, to the worm in the reed below, it must be determined that it does not go beyond the play of the one Sugatagarbha. If those who do not understand in this way practice the wisdom deity, they will grasp at substantial characteristics, so it is impossible to accomplish the wisdom deity, only worldly deities can be accomplished. For example, just like in poison there is no medicine. That is because emptiness is not realized. If emptiness is realized as it is, just like when a yogi practiced Te'u Rang (a kind of deity) in the past, he effortlessly obtained the accomplishments of the four activities of pacifying, increasing, subjugating, and destroying. If emptiness is not realized, even if Samantabhadra is practiced, worldly deities will be accomplished, and if peaceful deities are practiced, they will become gods of the form realm, and if wrathful deities are practiced, they will become demons and rakshasas, etc. As the tantra says: If the view does not change and there is no peg, even if the great glorious one is practiced, only common accomplishments will be obtained, supreme accomplishments will not be obtained, and one will stray into rakshasas. Like that. Therefore, all appearances, existence, samsara, and nirvana are the play of self-appearance, but just because of one consciousness of grasping at existence, all containers, contents, and enjoyments appear to have true existence. The reason why the two, grasper and grasped, grasp at non-existence as existence and become confused is, Geshe Serzhong

It is like the Jainas and the heretical cave meditators. Previously, a divine being asked Manjushri: From where did the container and its contents, such as Mount Meru and the sun and moon, arise? He replied: They arose from the mind's thoughts of a sentient being. When asked: Why do they arise merely from mind's thoughts? He replied: Previously, in Varanasi, an old woman meditated on her body as a tiger in her early life. In her later life, she actually manifested as a tiger and destroyed many cities. Like such stories, if one grasps the Alaya-vijñana as truly existent from beginningless time, it will appear in this way. Therefore, it is important to know that all phenomena are emptiness. Therefore, having ascertained that the container and its contents are self-appearances, one must leave them in their natural state without artificial alteration. As Machig Labdrön said: If nothing is done in the mind, there are no obstacles or faults. So it is said. Although some Gelugpas say that resting without fabrication is the view of Heshang, no one knows the characteristics of Heshang, because he is able to explain the Buddha's intermediate teachings, the dharma without characteristics, to the mind. His faculties are extremely sharp. Previously, when the master Kamalashila circled a broom on his head and asked with a coded question what the root of the three realms of samsara was, he answered by striking two sticks together, saying that it was the two, grasper and grasped. Therefore, he had sharp faculties to understand the code and the coded answer. The Buddha said that only the Buddha's omniscience is the field of activity, and no one else can determine it. Therefore, no one can realize the lineage of Heshang. In general, if one believes that the container and its contents exist inherently, then it is not emptiness. If one believes in emptiness but does not believe that it is empty from its own side, then it is not true emptiness, but emptiness like a hole. Like increasing numbers. For things that are not empty, it is just adding the embellishment of emptiness, which is not true emptiness. If one believes that samsara and nirvana are one basis, then when one sentient being attains Buddhahood, one must believe that all sentient beings attain Buddhahood at the same time. If one believes that they are one basis but says that they do not attain Buddhahood at the same time, then one part of the basis, once it attains Buddhahood, will eventually merge into the basis of sentient beings and fall back into delusion. If one believes that sentient beings exist inherently, what benefit is there? If one knows that sentient beings do not exist inherently, what harm is there?
