The explanation of the verses composed by Gonchok Gyaltsen (Gonchok Gyaltsen, 1299-1369, a high-ranking Sakya master of Tibetan Buddhism) is divided into two parts: a summary and a detailed explanation. The first is the summary: 'The wisdom body of all Buddhas,' etc. The body that embodies the wisdom of all Buddhas is the venerable Manjushri, and to subdue the wicked, he transforms into the wrathful form of great compassion, which is called 'Yamantaka,' meaning that the wrathful form of Manjushri is Yamantaka. As stated in the 《Manjushri Secret Tantra》: 'Seeing this wrathful one, other wrathful ones, all lose their weapons.' And so on, there are many such descriptions in the scriptures. Among them, the meaning of the name 'Vajrabhairava' is: Vajra is emptiness, solid and with a core, empty and unobstructed. Bhairava is the mind of compassion and bodhicitta without object. Thus, emptiness and compassion are inseparable, and to subdue the various wicked forms, he manifests as the body of a wrathful deity. The second part is the detailed explanation, which is divided into five aspects: the appearance of the face and its headdress; the gestures of the hands and their implements; the posture of the feet and the creatures they trample on; the ornaments of the body and its linga; and the nine dance postures and other details. The first is the appearance of the face: Tibetan and Indian masters have three different views on the appearance of the face. The first is to follow the small treatise of Lalita, or some follow the view of the teacher Ava, which is the view of Je Tsongkhapa. The second is the practice of the forty-nine deities of Lalita, etc., and the views of the Kyopa and the venerable Sakyas, which is the surrounding face. The third is the view of Ra Lotsawa, which is the stacked face. Now, what is to be discussed is the view that is currently applicable, which is the view of Ra Lotsawa in the thirteen-deity practice: on the right side, the first is blue, clenching its teeth; above it, the second is red, rolling its tongue; above it, the third is yellow, frowning. The three faces on the left side are white, smoky, and black, stacked on top of each other. Therefore, the three faces on the left and right sides are stacked on the walls on the left and right sides, and the tops of the faces are almost level with the tops of the walls. In some painted images, etc., the first two faces are connected to the left and right sides of the buffalo face, and the left and right sides of the Rakshasa face above it, and then to the left and right sides of the Manjushri face above it, but this does not conform to the view here, because in this way, it would be impossible to explain the statement 'the three faces on the right side,' etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Therefore, here one should visualize in the manner of stacking as previously described. Thus, visualize the right face as a stacked form, the three faces on the left as a stacked form, and the three faces in the center also as a stacked form. In some examples it says, 'The color is black, extremely wrathful, a terrifying form,' and in some it says, 'The body color is dark blue-black, extremely terrifying.' Doing it this way is also good. However, in many examples there is no explicit mention of the body color, even if it is not done this way, it actually implies that the body color is black, so there is no fault of omission. 1-296 The following describes the color and expressions of each face: 'The root face is the face of a buffalo in wrath, uttering great sounds of Hūṃ and Phaṭ.' etc. The root face is a buffalo face, in an extremely wrathful aspect, the face wide open, bared fangs, tongue curled, three eyes red and round, along with eyebrows, terrifying with multiple layers of wrinkles, nostrils flaring, uttering fierce sounds such as Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ,Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं,Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ,Literal meaning: seed syllable) and Phaṭ (Tibetan: ཕཊ,Sanskrit Devanagari: फट,Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ,Literal meaning: to burst/split) from the mouth, visualize the left and right horns as bluish-green. Above that is a red face, dripping with blood, extremely wrathful, which is called the Rakshasa face. Above that is the face of Mañjuśrī, yellow, slightly wrathful, with a topknot and five tufts of hair. If visualizing the six faces on the left and right as revolving faces, then on the right side of the root face, three faces are arranged from front to back: the first face, next to the root face, is a blue wrathful face, to its right is a red face, and to its right is a yellow face. On the left side of the root face: the first is a white wrathful face, to its left is a smoke-colored face, and to its left is a black face. Between the two faces on the back side, there is a slight back of the head. All seven wrathful faces have mouths open, bared fangs, tongues curled, three eyes red and round, along with eyebrows, wrinkles furrowed, along with two ears, the tips of the ears of the left and right faces almost touching. 1-297 If visualizing stacked faces, then the right face is a blue wrathful face looking to the right from the side of the buffalo horn and earring, above it is stacked a red face, and above it is stacked a yellow face. Next to the left horn and earring is a white wrathful face looking to the left, above it is a smoke-colored face, and above it is a black face, all with four throats each. All seven wrathful faces have mouths open, bared fangs, tongues curled, etc. as described above. The face of Mañjuśrī also has three eyes. The backs of the lower two faces are connected to the buffalo face, while the upper faces each have their own complete back of the head. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
