In a place called Um Drak Rum, along thirty-one paths, he built a small lama's hermitage. He practiced by begging for food from visitors, and eventually attained accomplishment. Through intense diligent practice, he obtained common siddhis (grub,成就), such as miraculous powers and various kinds of clairvoyance. It is said that he would give each passerby a portion of black bird food and a wooden bowl from the hillside. At that time, one or two people ate his food and conversed with Je pa (rje pa, venerable one). The previous three (ways of practice) refer to those who did not abandon the physical body, living like Tibetan yogis, but their behavior was rough and crude, and they did not truly become accomplished, merely attaining the experience of the Path of Seeing (mthong lam). This later one (practitioner) abandoned the physical body. However, through diligence and effort, he became one who could tame his mind. For example, when Dampa Seton (dam pa se ston, holy Seton) requested Dharma from his sister, he said, 'Should I abandon this view? Should I not abandon this view? I have no doubt about the Dharmadhatu (chos kyi dbyings). Should I doubt this conduct? Should I not doubt this conduct? Cause and effect never deceive.' The Dharma Lord (chos rje, Dharma master) said that these words themselves were like those spoken by an accomplished one. Among his five disciples who completed their studies, the history of Khon Konchok Gyalpo ('khon dkon mchog rgyal po) indicates that until Geshe Khonrok Sherab Tsultrim (dge bshes 'khon rog shes rab tshul khrims), they were all of the Ancient Secret Mantra (gsang sngags snga 'gyur ba) tradition. He said that he practiced the Ancient Secret Mantra and personally saw his protector deity—the white skull garland holder, whose skull garland is composed of suns, moons, and stars. Now a new Secret Mantra tradition has arisen, and he is one of the Sadmi Midun (sad mi mi bdun, seven awakened men). Khon Luwangpo Sungwa ('khon klu'i dbang po bsrung ba) said, 'You should study the new Secret Mantra tradition, because Rinchen Zangpo (rin chen bzang po, precious good) resides up there (referring to the upper regions), but the journey is far. Drokmi ('brog mi) resides here, so go there.' Because it was very difficult to request Dharma from him, he went to Nachang Pukha (nas 'phrang phur kha bstan). There resided a Geshe named Khyim Lotsa Tsurnan Akara (dge bshes khyim lo tsA 'tshur nan a ka ra). Lachen Drokmi (bla chen 'brog mi, great translator Drokmi) only had Dharma connections with him in India. Later, he became proficient in the Two Examinations (brtag gnyis) and taught it to him. When Geshe Konchok Gyalpo (dge bshes dkon mchog rgyal po) heard of this, Khyim (khyim) passed away. He went before Lachen Drokmi (bla chen 'brog), and Lachen Drokmi (bla chen 'brog) said, 'After your father died, you went to follow your grandfather, don't you know where to go?' There, he completed the study of all the scriptures and intended to request pith instructions (gdam ngag), so he returned to his homeland and sold the fields of Yaklung Jagshong (g.yag lung 'jag shongs) that were suitable for sale. He offered the remaining property to the Sangha, and there is still a small temple there. The money from the sale amounted to about seventeen mule-loads of goods, and he offered all of these to the Lama (bla). --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Great Translator said, 'I don't want these horses because I don't have money.' Then he offered a precious rosary that he himself used for provisions, saying, 'Please use this to pay for the horses.' The Great Translator said, 'That's fine,' and accepted it. After that, he requested instructions, but the Great Translator did not give him instructions on 'The Inconceivable' and the twenty-four realizations of Tummo yoga, etc. The second part is the biography of Ngari Pa Geshe Belwai Nyingpo (Mnga' ris pa gsal ba'i snying po, Ari Master Light of Essence): First, his father was the householder Res Ri Zhing (Khyim btsun res ri zhing), who lived in Yosemo (Yo se mor). There, he read a Compendium of Training (bslab bsdus) in pursuit of Dharma. When he rolled up the scroll and returned home, his children were playing, and he did not teach them to read. He said, 'There is no need to teach reading, I have already memorized the Compendium of Training.' Therefore, from a young age, one should learn to read and so on without difficulty. His manner of conduct and the naming of the three, 'Madhyamaka,' 'Sharzong,' and 'Uma,' and the teachings of the Nyingma school, were all because of the power of the awakening of previous life's imprints, and he understood them well without learning. He began to teach at a young age, and thus became very famous. It is said that such a great master with extensive learning went to Mugu Lung (Mu gu lung) to request empowerment. At that time, because he had heard and taught many teachings of the Ocean-Born Vajra (mtsho skyes, Padmasambhava), he heard the Ocean-Born Vajra eight times. The Ngari Master said, 'Without instructions, one cannot understand the secret teachings, this is true.' I can understand some teachings without learning, but I cannot understand other teachings after hearing them once. When listening to the Ocean-Born Vajra for the first seven times, I hid all the notes, and the Great Translator would say, 'My son needs these.' Therefore, I developed some realizations. He said that from the seventh to the eighth time, there was no difference. In this way, he finished listening to all the explanations of the scriptures, and wanting to request instructions, he went to Kongpo (Kong po), accumulated much merit, brought back many possessions, offered them to the Great Translator, and requested instructions and empowerment, which the Great Translator granted him. On the night of preparation, he dreamed of a master called 'Dromi's Treasury' ('Brog mi'i mdzod), where there were many simple doors, one of which was larger than the others and very simple. He dreamed that someone gave him the key to this door, and then he woke up. The next morning, he told the master, who said, 'You possess the treasury of supreme instructions, but in reality, not all of them will be given to you.' The Great Translator asked, 'How so?' He told the previous dreams, and the Great Translator said, 'If I don't give you instructions, who will I give them to? But you will become my Dharma heir.' Then he gave him the instructions on 'The Inconceivable.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
