When Jo bo (尊称, honorific title) Atisha showed signs of passing away, he said, 'My nephew is in Thod phu, take me there.' Gnyos and others said, 'The lama's connection in this life is in India. Although we are your disciples in terms of Dharma, there are two nomadic students named Se rog in Thod phu.' 'We are the lama's true disciples, please stay here.' But the venerable one said, 'It is no use, take me there.' So he went to Thod phu and said to the two meditators Se rog, 'Children, do not be lazy in your practice. I have been going back and forth between Tibet and India, and although I have not practiced single-mindedly, this is how a mantra practitioner should pass away.' After saying this, he sat in vajra posture, holding a vajra and bell in his hands, and passed away in a sphere of light. A ray of light shot out from the crown of his head, and everyone saw it rise into the sky before he passed away. Later, Jo bo's tutelary deity, the image of glorious Hevajra (dpal kyai rdo rje) and the texts of the Two Examinations (brtag gnyis), were given as sacred offerings to the disciples of Geshe (dge bshes) Se rog, the attendant Phagpa Chosnang (nye gnas 'phags pa chos snang). Chosnang and Nagton (nag ston) were teacher and disciple, and he gave these to Nagton Lotsawa (nags ston lo tsA). Nagton and Lachen (bla chen) were mutual teachers and disciples, and the precious teacher came to Chokhor (chos 'khor) Monastery. The venerable one said, 'This Indian scripture was given in batches, fourteen sections out of one hundred thousand verses were given at one time, and the handle of the bell was broken.' When he arrived at Vajrasana (rdo rje pa ru mtshams), it was in the hands of someone named Yungton (gyung ston). Someone said they wanted to offer a Gur (gur tshar), and the venerable one said, 'Because he is not a Sakya, but someone who has heard the tantras, first explain the tantras, but because many Geshes have come, it is not possible to explain the profound tantras.' Later, after reciting the Hundred Syllable Mantra (yig brgya), he explained it and took back the vajra. The image and the Two Examinations passed from Nagton Lotsawa to the Sakya school, and are still preserved in Sakya Monastery. It is said that when the venerable one arrived at Vajrasana, he also obtained a bell, which is still in Sakya Monastery. It is said that these are the intermediate histories of Atisha's lineage from Gayadhara (gaya dhara).' So, what are the special qualities of Je Mulungpa (rje mu lung pa), who found the treasure of precious oral teachings? If asked, what are the special qualities of Je Mulungpa, who found the treasure of precious oral teachings, such a lama? He is a learned and wise scholar. He has attained stability in the generation stage (bskyed pa'i rim pa), is able to emanate his body into one or two, is able to take objects from the fire altar of a burnt offering, and is able to sit in vajra posture in the sky by the power of wind. He has the clairvoyance to know the thoughts of others at will, and is able to perform transference of consciousness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
