The attachment to viewing gradually diminishes, the coarseness of afflictions gradually decreases, and one gains virtues such as the power of faith in the profound Dharma. Therefore, it is not said that it should all be hidden. So, how can the attachment to viewing things as real be diminished by seeing and hearing such teachings if one does not have the power of practice? Here, an example should be examined: For example, a certain person is repeatedly burned by fire and is filled with fear. Therefore, he understands the function and characteristics of fire very well. He is also skilled in the methods of using fire, and thus has a strong attachment to the characteristics of fire. Due to some reason, he goes to a wilderness monastery where wild people and hermits often reside. There, he sees an animal called "Fire Pure Sound" that bathes in fire, is unharmed, and cleanses impurities. He even sees fire performing the function of water. He also sees an animal called "Fire Rat" that lives in fire, enters a blazing fire pit, eats fire as food, and enjoys the pleasure of fire. Then, this person thinks to himself: 'Alas, because I am afraid of fire, I understand the function and characteristics of fire very well, and I have developed a strong attachment to it. Now that I have come to this wilderness monastery and seen these beings, I truly understand the characteristics of fire. This thing called fire is produced by the common karma of sentient beings, and its characteristics are not necessarily heat and burning. Although it does not change its own characteristics, it appears to have the function of heat and burning for some beings like us who have similar karma.' Thinking this way, his attachment to the characteristics of fire diminishes. However, he himself will not jump into the fire. Similarly, some people become weary and fearful of karma and the suffering of karma, and thus generate the mind of enlightenment. They also become skilled in the characteristics of suffering and its cause—karma and afflictions. They also become skilled in the antidotes to suffering, the trainings. Thus, they develop a strong attachment to the characteristics of defiled and purified dharmas. What cause and condition can make the profound methods and wisdom, which are extremely excellent, free from acceptance and rejection, and the view and practice of equality

If, having heard and understood these waves of thought from virtuous and noble spiritual friends, one thinks, "Alas, I am afflicted by the suffering of samsara. I have trained in its causes and results, and in the antidotes to liberation from it. I am attached to the characteristics of what is incompatible and what is an antidote." Here, having seen and understood the profound methods and wisdom, I will first comprehend the characteristics of all phenomena. Thus, what is called complete affliction and complete purification is without essence, without self, without person. Those who have attained the power of wisdom, samadhi, and great compassion, however they may act, will not be obscured and will become a great accumulation. Like us, who have not abandoned the view of self, who are under the control of the illusion of afflictions, who are driven by karma, who are distracted by the mirage of conceptualization and the stream of dreams, we are simply unable to practice equal conduct." Thinking thus, attachment will be reversed. Furthermore, it is said, "Are these great vows of conduct not spoken according to intention? If they are not to be practiced, what benefit will there be from merely reversing attachment?" Here, an example should be considered: There is a kind of nectar called Brahma's Ambrosia. It can be digested by those who have accumulated immeasurable merit, but not by ordinary people. If it is digested, one will obtain immeasurable life, strength, and courage. Even those who do not have the power to digest it, if they keep it in a precious vessel and venerate it, non-humans and venomous snakes will not enter the house where it is kept. Furthermore, it will pacify the power of poison mixed with the poison of views, and poison that arises simultaneously. Such is the power of its qualities. If someone says to those who are coarse-minded and greedy for desire, "This is nectar, it is difficult to digest," that person, being of a coarse-minded and greedy nature, will not listen well to his words and will eat it. If he eats it, he will be destroyed by it. For such people, this
