That which is called 'arising from other' means that all sentient beings arise from a cause made by Ishvara, Brahma, and a creator appointed by heaven; therefore, it arises from other. That which is called 'arising from both' means that the permanent self is the cause, and Ishvara and Brahma are the conditions for arising. For example, if a blind man carries a cripple on his back, the blind man acts as the legs, and the cripple acts as the eyes, and they go as if reaching the place they intended. Therefore, the permanent self is the cause, and Ishvara and Brahma are the conditions, and all sentient beings arise from this; therefore, it arises from both. That which is called 'arising from no cause' means, where is the cause for autumn mushrooms sprouting from the ground? Who made the round beans round? Who sharpened the thorns to make them sharp? Who made the peacock beautiful? The scripture also says, 'Round beans, round mustard seeds, thorns are sharp by nature, and the peacock is beautiful, not made by anyone, beautiful by nature.' That is to say, nature can arise without depending on causes and conditions. That's what they say. When the heretics argued in this way, the Mahayana practitioner retorted: Your so-called 'arising' may be acceptable as words for the moment, but if it is analyzed with reason, then, let's say 'arising from self,' does this 'self' arise from something that has already arisen, or does it arise from something that has not arisen? If it is said to arise from something that has already arisen, then the 'self' has already been established as the nature of the five aggregates, so there is no need to produce it again. If this 'self,' which has already been established as the nature of the five aggregates, arises again, then there will be no end to the arising of sentient beings. Even the sky today, if it could produce something, it would not be able to produce it in that way. If it is said to arise from something that has not arisen, then that which has not arisen has no arising. A phenomenon that has never existed cannot be designated by the name 'self.' So, how can an existing phenomenon arise from a non-existent phenomenon? If that were the case, then non-existent things like rabbit horns or the children of barren women would also exist. Thus, it is impossible to arise from either what has arisen or what has not arisen, so it does not arise from self. If you say 'arising from other,' then does it arise from other that has been destroyed, or from other that has not been destroyed? Arising from other that has been destroyed

Thus it is said, destruction is cessation, and cessation refers to the complete non-existence of anything. Without a cause, it is unreasonable to have a cause, so it is not produced from other destructions either. If it is said to arise from other non-destructions, it is like two ox horns, where the cause and the effect exist side by side, and neither the cause nor the effect can function, so it is not produced from other non-destructions either, so it is not produced from others. The opponent refutes: Is it unreasonable for others to arise from others? From the refutation, it is answered again: The so-called other-birth is like planting buckwheat and highland barley seeds, and producing fruits such as wheat or highland barley. Performing non-virtue will lead to birth in higher realms, and performing virtue will lead to birth in lower realms. If this is the only way to say that others are produced from others, but it is impossible to produce in this way, so it is not produced from others either. It is also not produced from both, because the self mentioned above has not been established and is still in the category of being established, and the other has not been established and is also in the category of being established. Two non-existent things cannot be the cause of one existent thing, so it is not produced from both. Or it is also to include the faults of the above two. It is also not born from no cause, because everything depends on causes and conditions. If it arises from nothing, then flowers will grow in the sky, hair will grow on turtles, barren women will have sons, and rabbits will grow horns. Fruits will be produced without cause, and those who do not practice virtue will be born in higher realms, and those who do not practice non-virtue will be born in lower realms. The fault of butter appearing in the sand will also occur, but this is impossible, so it is not born from no cause either. The Mahayana practitioner said so, and the heretical opponent's self-nature said: Your self cannot be produced from the self, nor can it be produced from both or without cause, these are all possible, but the so-called other cannot be produced from the other, there is a place to investigate this, that is, the other, also impermanent, also not destroyed. Because it is the other, there are highland barley seeds before the green seedlings, so it is the other. Because it is impermanent, the highland barley seeds perish, and the green seedlings emerge, so it is also impermanent. Because it is not destroyed, so highland barley seeds and seedlings
