Herein lies a memorandum on various views and tenets. The view of the Shravakas is that both the Vaibhashikas and the Sautrantikas similarly hold that external objects, atomic particles, exist as substances. As the scripture says: \"If a single hair is placed on the palm, people will not recognize it, but if it enters the eye, it is different. The wisdom of the wise is like an eye, the wisdom of the unwise is like a palm.\" This refers to both the Vaibhashikas and the Sautrantikas. Among them, the Vaibhashikas agree with the view of the Materialist heretics who assert the existence of particles. The Materialist heretics who assert the existence of particles believe that all phenomena are merely sounds, and they believe that these sounds are unmixed. Similarly, the Shravaka Vaibhashikas also believe that the ultimate end of all things is atomic particles, and they believe that these particles are unmixed. If the belief that sounds are unmixed and the belief that particles are unmixed are the same, then why is one said to be a dharma of samsara, and the other said to be a dharma of liberation, nirvana? The answer is: Even so, the Materialists believe that sound is permanent, and they believe that there is a self that is the agent. When that sound becomes very familiar, touching the sky with the hand will produce a \"tak tak\" sound. Therefore, because they believe that the self is permanent, it is said to be a dharma of samsara. But the Shravakas believe that the atomic particles themselves are impermanent, and that there is no self that is the agent, so it is said to be a dharma of nirvana. The Shravaka Sautrantikas are called Sautrantikas because they are in accordance with all the Buddha's words. So, what is the difference in how these two Shravakas cut off external objects? The Vaibhashikas say: All appearances arise from aggregation, like piling up clay. All cutting off is done by contact, and consciousness, like a mouse, cuts off the self-nature of the external object. The Sautrantikas say: All appearances arise in dependence on other things, like a forest and a yak's tail. All cutting off is done horizontally, that is, the appearance of the external object, in the first moment, is the same as the external object and the sense faculty, and immediately after arising, as soon as it ceases, in the second moment, the appearance of consciousness arises." } ] ============================================================

Knowing that there is an impression in the mind like the pattern of a local habit-formed zhao (a type of silk brocade), therefore, the so-called "having a local aspect" refers to subsequently determining what the place is. When a Shravaka determines a place in this way, there are also three things that cannot be violated: it must not contradict direct perception, it must not contradict reasoning, and it must not contradict the teachings of the Tathagata. Among them, there are also three types of direct perception: sense direct perception, mental direct perception, and yogic direct perception. Among them, sense direct perception is: form, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The object of mental direct perception is: these forms, etc., can also be transformed into mental direct perception. Thus it is said. The debater says: Can two consciousnesses hold one object, or not? If it can hold, then it will commit the fault of repeatedly holding what has already been held. If it cannot hold, then it will commit the fault of being deaf and blind. If it is not based on the five sense consciousnesses, but determines what is hidden by the mind, then it will commit the fault of not being deaf and blind. Thus it is said. The answer is: The so-called transverse determination of the object refers to gradual determination afterwards. Among them, in the first moment, the object and the root are the same, and through the immediate gathering of the three, the appearance of the object is gradually determined, and then it is clearly determined by the mind. Yogic direct perception is: even in the state of meditative absorption, the wisdom eye of the noble ones can see that the outer shell of the atom exists as a real entity. That which cannot contradict reasoning is: from the five aggregates, the form aggregate is composed of atoms; from the elements and sources, the sense organs are also composed of atoms. Therefore, it is admitted that objects exist in the ultimate truth. That which cannot contradict the teachings is: there are four impossible dharmas: it is impossible for the fruit to ripen first and the cause to arise later, because dharma, cause, and effect cannot be reversed. It is impossible for two Buddhas to turn the wheel of dharma in the same world at the same time; if this happens, one of them is a demon. It is impossible for two kings to rule the same country; if this happens, the country will be in chaos. The Tathagata
