It is nowhere to be found, having the characteristic of being shaky and distracted. Like a monkey, it doesn't engage in what should be done, but engages in what shouldn't be done. Like the waves of the great ocean, conceptualization is endless. Like a magician, it always shows what is not true. It is always delighted with external objects, and does not like to abide in reality internally. Such a nature, difficult to tame, is tamed by recitation and meditation, and applied to the path of liberation. So it is said. In short, there are two methods of taming: one is called Anugraha (Sanskrit: Anugraha, Devanagari: अनुग्रह, Romanization: anugraha, literal meaning: compliance), which is to grasp by compliance; the other is called Pigraha (Sanskrit: Pigraha, Devanagari: पिग्रह, Romanization: pigraha, literal meaning: subjugation), which is to grasp by reversing or punishing. Compliance and grasping is: like a flash of lightning, first settle on the object of meditation for a short time, and do not continue for a long time. Like the wind, enter through various kinds of actions. Like a monkey, enter according to similarities. Like the ocean, be in accordance with various kinds of thoughts. Like a magician, even what is not true should be relied upon in the process of taming. Like being delighted with external objects, also settle on the objects of desire. Reversing and grasping is: contrary to lightning, grasp brightly for a long time; contrary to the wind, make it unmoving; contrary to the monkey, focus it on what should be done; contrary to the ocean, calm the waves of thought; contrary to the magician, contemplate the true meaning; contrary to being delighted with external objects, settle on abiding in reality internally. In short, for this method of taming by complying with the nature of ordinary mind, there is no limit to this or that method. Because how the actions of the mind scatter, what they engage in, and how much they engage in, for all these, by thinking in accordance with any object of meditation, eventually conceptualization itself also transcends the object of meditation, and cannot find a place to go elsewhere. This is mostly said from the perspective of practicing calm abiding. The samadhi endowed with the six limbs of yoga is, as it is said: From the Compendium: Separate abandonment and meditation, breath stopping, releasing and grasping, subsequent recollection and samadhi, combine.

It is called "Six Limbs of Increasing." Thus it is said. Among them, there are six limbs for attaining inner yoga. Among them, individual abandonment is abiding in discipline, just as one who desires complete purity of discipline, because of being without distraction and without the stain of regret, constantly guards the senses. Likewise, it is the cause for attaining samadhi. This so-called individual abandonment is also not to be abandoned by regarding all the arising consciousnesses from the gates of objects and senses as faults. Nor is it to be followed by clinging to characteristics by regarding them as objects. Rather, one should always practice by regarding oneself as one's own deity, and this is to abandon both clinging to and rejecting objects. The senses are naturally subdued, and one is not overcome by the suffering of suppressed desires, and one also receives the blessings of the Buddhas, therefore, one becomes a vessel for meditation. This is also called individual conduct, because one enjoys it with bliss. It is also called individual abandonment, because one abandons being distracted by desires. Since meditation arises from being separated from desires and sinful non-virtuous dharmas, it is reasonable to explain meditation after that. It also has five limbs, namely, investigation and analysis, joy and happiness, one-pointedness of mind, these five. The object of meditation at this time is also the three secrets, because the three secrets encompass all mudras. The mudras also encompass all completely pure deities in the manner of meaning and symbols. Among them, the secret of body is the body of the deity's form, the differences of color, shape, and movement. As it is said: 'Eyebrows, eyes, teeth, and lips, face, body, feet, and hands, the glorious seal of Vajrasattva, accomplish all self-benefiting actions.' Thus, through all the ways of the body, one focuses on the object of meditation. The secret of speech, (in the later meditation) as it is said: 'Discriminating sound and non-sound, hiding my speech, the vajra speech.' As it is said, on the heart and tongue of the deity, one visualizes the letters of the Dharma, the characteristics of color and shape, and also examines and analyzes them together with the nature of sound and the meaning of sound, which is the attainment of meditation.
