There is also that. Similarly, the ālaya-vijñāna is the storehouse of all dharmas that are defiled and undefiled, and it is the place of all knowable things. According to the lower vehicle, the characteristic of the ālaya is that it exists and matures as the nature of the cause and effect of all defiled dharmas, like a ripening fruit. For the undefiled, it is only a support and a place, like medicine in a bottle of poison. That is what is said. According to the higher vehicle, the characteristic of the ālaya is that it is pure from the beginning, as the nature of the essence of enlightenment, so the ālaya is called the mind of enlightenment. Afflictions and karmic imprints of bad migrations are temporary stains, like gold covered with mud, or a precious jewel buried in mud, only slightly obscuring the qualities, but not damaging the nature. As it is said: (In the Vajra Array Sutra:) “A burning jewel of a lamp, even if it sinks into a bad mud, because its own qualities appear, the light is clear in the sky. Likewise, the nature of mind is like a jewel, even if it sinks into a bad samsara, because its own nature is clear light, wisdom and dharmata are clear in the sky.” It is like that. In short, in any case, all dharmas of white and black are only appearances of the ālaya-vijñāna. And the appearance is also due to the power of the karmic imprints of actions. Because the way it appears is not really existent, if one realizes that all dharmas are naturally nirvana, then one has opened the king's treasury. At that time, the monkey is also caught, the cat is also tied, the empty house is also demolished, and the window is also blocked. If one has such intelligence, one does not need to seek the path to enlightenment elsewhere. That is what is said. Among them, taming the six difficult-to-tame minds is: It is said thus: (In the Army Dharani:) “The mind is like lightning, wind, and a monkey, like the waves of the great ocean. Like a magician, always delighted in the objects that appear, tame the wavering and wandering mind.” Thus it is said. The mind is like lightning, clear for only a moment, and does not remain clear continuously. Like the wind, the nature is the existing dharma.
