The prana, internally, pervades the entire body, mostly from the navel upwards, and externally, extends to sixteen fingers' breadth. The channel of prana is mainly from the secret place of the throat to the nostrils. The functions of prana are two: the function of holding and the function of acting. Among these, the function of holding benefits the body through touch and also holds the body. It acts as the mount of the mind and also holds the mind. Therefore, it holds both body and mind, and is called the function of holding life. The function of acting is that when moving, both body and mind move, and when not moving, both do not move. The methods of focusing on prana are many, and there is no contradiction in any of them. In summary, there is focusing in accordance with the nature of prana and focusing without relying on the nature. Among these, the one in accordance is that what flows from the right is the element of fire and wind, what flows from the left is the element of earth and water, and what flows from the center is said to be the element of space. Further dividing it, each of the left and right flows with the complete five elements. If roughly summarized, each of the left and right is shown as a share of one element. Through the distinction of color, shape, size, and form, one focuses on each separately. The form can also be focused on as light, letters, symbols, or subtle body forms. The one not relying on the nature is without distinguishing individual differences, only focusing on the outward and inward flow of prana. Or focusing on any one appearance, or focusing only on touch is also acceptable, but it is essential not to let the mind wander. The faults and merits of color and size that are generally spoken of are that the elements are of a coarse nature. Therefore, focusing on the object of meditation, even when the power increases, also has its faults and merits. Among these, white is the nature of pacifying coarseness, yellow is the nature of holding coarseness, red is the nature of increasing coarseness, and black is said to be the nature of arousing coarseness. Touch and size are also the same. If focusing on something hard and large, the body will feel uncomfortable. If focusing on something subtle and ethereal like the moon's reflection in water, then focusing on the small amount of substance, the body will not feel uncomfortable. Thus it is said. The merits of focusing on prana are that because one is skilled in the form of the body, one can...

Reversing the views of singularity, substantiality, and happiness and purity, vipashyana arises. Having attained mind-abiding, one becomes capable of shamatha. Similarly, apply the mind to itself. The nature of the mind is the realm of appearance, the realm of delusion, and the realm of distinct consciousness of individual objects. The place of the mind is that it rides on the winds of the five elements and abides in the body of the five elements. The object of the mind is: the object of appearance is all phenomena; the object of delusion is the mind itself; the object of distinct consciousness is the external sense bases. The path of the mind is the senses. The function of the mind is twofold: the function of grasping is to grasp all phenomena; the function of acting is to manifest all actions of good and evil. The method of focusing on the mind is: having previously become capable of focusing on the breath, then holding it with mindfulness and awareness, focusing on how the mind arises, thereby comprehending the nature of the mind. The benefits of focusing are: reversing all views of self, permanence, and substantiality, thereby generating vipashyana. The mind becomes capable, thereby attaining shamatha. Thus, having become capable of focusing on body and mind, one should focus on the deity. For the deity, one should also temporarily show signs that are in accordance with body and mind. How is that? The nature of the deity is: the purity of dharmata, the wisdom of non-discrimination, the wisdom of knowing everything clearly, the form body that tames beings, and the speech that teaches the sacred Dharma in individual languages, which is the nature of the five dharmas. The place of the deity is: the body and mind of sentient beings themselves. The object of the deity is the dharmadhatu and the fields of great compassion. The path of the deity is without coming and going, but the deity's object of complete acceptance is sentient beings, the refuge of sentient beings is the deity, and what becomes the door and path of the two connections is: the Dharma of the path (sentient beings connected to the deity) and the Dharma of the teachings (the deity connected to sentient beings), and so on. The function of the deity is: the function of grasping is to be endowed with all qualities; the function of acting is to liberate sentient beings. The method of focusing on the deity is to meditate on body and mind themselves as the deity, which is the manner of the three yogas.
