Appearances that have a basis, those that do not, and those that possess an incorrect basis; appearances that are capable of action and those that are not; appearances that are substantially existent and those that are imputedly existent; and appearances that are conceptually constructed and those that are characterized by their own nature, and so forth. All these distinctions that appear within the conventional truth can be established as having their own individual differences, just as they are known to be, and they will become equal when everything becomes equal. So, what are those that appear as shared and unshared experiences due to the results of karma? For those who assert the existence of external objects, can it be said that a particular form, such as fire, which is created by the power of shared karma, is shared? According to the view of those who assert the non-existence of external objects, can it be said that the mind itself appears as an external object due to the power of the habitual tendencies of shared karma, and that fire, which appears as a particular form, is shared? That is to say, based on a phenomenon that is commonly established, the internal differences that appear as unshared are as follows: For humans and most animals, touching fire appears to be burning and is seen as a place of suffering. Among the animal species, there is one called "fire-purifier deer," which bathes in fire and is not burned, and its fur becomes very lush in color and sheen; fire performs the function of water. Among the animal species, there is one called "fire-rat," which lives in places where wildfires constantly occur, and enters into blazing fire pits, and all its dwelling and food activities are done with fire. Among the ghost species, there is one called "fire-ghost mother," and among the god species, there are gods of the Brahmin caste who are hermits, called "fire-gods," who receive burnt offerings. It is said that their bodies are made of the fire element. These are examples of shared and unshared experiences that appear due to the results of karma. Moreover, for a single blade of grass, most animals see it as a place to enjoy and it also sustains life. But ordinary people and humans do not see it that way, nor can they use it to sustain life. These are also differences between shared and unshared experiences that appear due to the results of karma. Furthermore, in the hell realms of sentient beings, there are red-hot iron grounds and...

Those that appear as places of suffering, like a forest fire, and those that appear as places of enjoyment, like wish-fulfilling trees and good vases in the realm of the gods, are not merely individual appearances. It is established that beings who have become humans also appear to the mind as a common object due to the power of common karma or the influence of common karmic imprints. However, they do not cause happiness and suffering for people because of that. Moreover, although people's food, drink, clothing, and so on are manifestly established and can be enjoyed in common, some are controlled by other powerful beings and have no freedom to enjoy them. Some have obtained freedom and enjoy them as they please. These are the differences that appear in the distribution of karma, in terms of whether enjoyment is the same or different. What are those that appear as completely pure and completely impure? For example, like the Ganges River, both humans and pretas, in the same place, commonly see a great river flowing; there is no difference in the basis. However, to the pretas, it appears as water and also as impure, full of pus and blood, and cannot be enjoyed. To humans, it appears as water and also as pure, without impurities, and can be enjoyed. Furthermore, this four-continent world of the Blessed One Shakyamuni is said to be a completely impure realm. Similarly, the Venerable Shariputra said, "I see this realm of the Blessed One filled with heights and depths, ravines, cliffs, and filth." The Brahma with the topknot, who came from the realm of the Buddha Free from Sorrow, said, "Venerable Shariputra, do not say such things. It is only that your own mind has heights and depths; there is no impurity in the realm of the Blessed One. I see this realm of the Blessed One as pure, like the palace of the gods of Paranirmita-vasavartin, with a perfect arrangement of jewels." At that time, the Blessed One, in the center of the assembly, manifested
