From... it is said: The god Indra divided his seat in half, sharing power and enjoyment with the god, but from this, the desire and greed grew even greater. Therefore, due to the power of desire, he fell back into Jambudvipa, became ignorant, and then asked the people: Whose land is this? The people replied: We have heard from our elders that this land was originally the land of a king named "Fame Without End." As soon as they said this, like a candle blown by the wind, he died on the spot due to the disease of desire. When the people heard of this, they were very surprised and said: This Fame Without End, who was born from the crown of his head and obtained the seven precious things, was equal to the god Indra, and there was no one greater than him. He died from the disease of desire, and there is no one more base than him. Alas, oh, how strange, we are amazed by this. It is like saying this: In the ultimate truth, all phenomena are completely pacified, and it is as if there is nothing to practice. However, clinging to the characteristics of true conventional reality, believing that there are things to be abandoned and accepted, is a very inappropriate clinging and a cause for wonder. If one does not want to truly practice, then how can all conventionalities become equal? For example, when a rope is seen as a snake, the rope is truly existent, and the snake is completely non-existent. The mind that sees the rope as a rope is correct knowledge, and the mind that sees the rope as a snake is mistaken knowledge. Because error is impure, that mind itself does not exist as it appears, and therefore it will not attain its own nature, but is merely imputed from something else. Then, upon closer examination of that same rope, one sees only that it is a collection of many parts of grass or hair. When the thought of the rope as a single, round object disappears, the collection of parts is what truly exists. The rope and the snake are equal, both completely non-existent. The mind that sees the parts of the rope as being gathered together is correct knowledge, and the mind that sees the rope as a rope is the same as the mind that sees the rope as a snake, which is mistaken knowledge. Then, upon closer examination of the hair and grass themselves, one sees only that they are a collection of dust.

E! When it is realized that even the components of hair and grass are not established, the state of meaning and mind are all the same as before. Then, when that very dust is analyzed by the mind, it is realized that the dust itself is not established. When one sees that there is only emptiness, which is emptiness of form, then all meaning and mind are the same as before. Then, when emptiness itself is analyzed, this thing called emptiness is merely established in dependence on things. If things themselves are not established, then emptiness is not established. What is empty? Empty of what dharma? Whose emptiness? When it is realized that there is no dharma to be established, all meanings equally go to non-existence. All minds equally go to confusion. All confusions equally go to not being as they appear. All things that are not like that equally go to not having obtained their own nature. When it becomes without having obtained its own nature, there is no characteristic in which meaning and mind are not equal. Among them, at first, when seeing a snake, one is frightened and hatred arises. Then, when seeing a rope, a conceited mind of abandoning hatred arises, and a mind of attachment arises. Then, when the thought of the rope disappears, abandoning the attachment to the round coil of the rope, the mind of attachment arises only to the collection of many. As long as the view of things is not reversed, the mind of abandoning and arising attachment and hatred will not change. However, for the characteristics of meaning, as long as the truly established entity is not established, the temporarily established entity cannot be established without being equal. Except for not denying mere appearance, all characteristics are equal. Similarly, all the various appearances of conventional truth are like this: Based on a common appearance that is consistent, different distinctions appear, such as: For the distribution of karma, there are appearances of being consistent and inconsistent, appearances of being completely pure and completely impure, appearances of having close appropriation and not having close appropriation, appearances of being inverted and not inverted, and appearances of having both parts, and seeing inverted appearances with inversion, and seeing inverted appearances with non-inversion.
