It is said, "Merely the name, there is no distinction between good and non-good, there is no arising." For example, it is merely saying the name "sky," but its essence is not specifiable. Similarly, good and non-good, etc., also have no essence, so there is neither anything to negate nor anything to follow. Therefore, when keeping the mind equanimous with such a meaning, one should be free from these objects of focus, as it is said: "Do not focus on effort, have no attachment to anything, be free from knowing and not knowing. Without recollection and discrimination, have no joy or sameness towards abandoning and taking, and do not fixate. Abide equally, without dualistic grasping, beyond expression, without actions to do or not to do, etc., without diminishing." This means that since the entities of faults and qualities are not established, one does not focus on the effort of abandoning and taking. Since the nature of what is to be manifested is not established, there is no attachment to anything. Since the nature of mind itself is not established, it is neither the characteristic of knowledge nor the characteristic of matter, therefore it is free from knowing and not knowing. Since there is no distinction between incompatibility and antidote, there is no need to recollect the antidote, and there is no joy in either abandoning or taking. Both abide equally and identically, without fixating on anything. Since there is neither wanting nor not wanting, one abides equally. Since one does not distinguish differences, there is no dualistic grasping. Since it transcends words, it is free from expression. Since there is no purpose to pursue, there is no action. Since one does not view the actions of the three doors as faults, there is nothing that should not be done, nor is there a need to perfect the two accumulations, nor is there a need to diminish obscurations, as it is said in the Perfection of Wisdom: "There is no diminishing, no increasing." It is like that. This meaning is also stated in the Garuda scripture, saying: "Let go, abide, it is self-nature! There is no desire, nor is there taking. Do not generate even a speck of joy, like a great Garuda soaring in the sky. There is no expansion, nor is there contraction. Do not fear losing, nor do you grasp. Abide primordially like the ocean, causing various phenomena to arise." This means that since there is nothing to accomplish, let go. Since there is nothing to abandon, abide. Since there is no object to manifest, there is no desire. Since the entity itself is not established, there is no taking. Since there is no joy in anything, do not generate even a speck of joy. For example, like a great Garuda soaring in the sky, without the expansion and contraction of wings.

In short, just like a huge wave crashes, yet doesn't rely on anything and falls into the abyss. Because there is no substance, there is no fear, and no worry of losing. Precisely because of this, there is also no object of attachment. However, do not be afraid of these. Because emptiness is what eliminates all fears, while clinging to substantiality cannot save anyone, nor can it liberate them. For example, the Shravakas are also liberated by realizing no-self, but if they cling to the apprehended and the apprehender, they cannot be liberated. The Pratyekabuddhas are also liberated by realizing the absence of the apprehended, but if they cling to the apprehender, they cannot be liberated. The Yogacharas are also liberated by realizing the absence of both the apprehended and the apprehender, but if they cling to the existence of mind, they cannot be liberated. The Madhyamikas are also liberated by realizing the absence of ultimate truth, but if they cling to the existence of conventional truth, they cannot be liberated. If one does not cling to anything at all, then the practice of skillful means will be interrupted, and one will lose compassion. If wisdom and compassion cannot be united, then one cannot attain liberation. Compassion arises in relation to sentient beings, however, it is not necessary to view the nature of sentient beings as substantial. Even if sentient beings do not exist, the appearances of sentient beings' suffering and happiness are merely like illusions to benefit them. By practicing in this way, one can generate pure great compassion that is free from attachment and fatigue. Therefore, for the practice of skillful means, it is not necessary to cling to substantiality. Therefore, emptiness is what eliminates all fears, do not be afraid of this. "Like the ocean, the ever-abiding nature, produces various phenomena." This means: Just as waves arise from the ocean, and the waves themselves are the ocean. From emptiness, without moving, various characteristics appear, and the appearance itself is emptiness. Therefore, without obstructing, let it arise naturally, without grasping, let it subside naturally. Again, from this it is said: "In the direct perception, all is without discrimination, in this vast essence of mind, If one enters this pure path, one will attain the kingly state of equality." It is said that although appearances and conceptual thoughts appear in direct perception, both are not established in the moment of appearance, therefore there is no acceptance or rejection. For the mind, because there is no substance, conceptual thoughts naturally disappear. Because the self-nature abides, without any action, it is called the vast essence of mind. Because it is free from all clinging, one enters the pure path.
