Even without a moment passing, dreaming of living through a kalpa or more than a kalpa, there is no passing of a long time. Bodhisattvas bless that seven days pass through a great kalpa. Even seven days are just a manifestation of mind, and a great kalpa is just a manifestation of mind. It is not shortening a long time. Blessing seven days as countless kalpas, at that time, it is not lengthening a short time into a long time. Similarly, those who believe that samsara has no beginning also only have their minds confused by time. So, if all appearances are illusions, what will appear to the illusory mind? This needs to be explained: From the practice of Bodhicitta, the non-real pervasive conceptualization with pervasive conceptualization has no fabrication experience. Wisdom is reversed, and controlled by the causes and conditions of ignorance, the mind and mental factors appear as the meaning of the three bodies. Just as it is said, the minds of sentient beings are controlled by ignorance, and from the beginning without initial fabrication, their nature becomes pervasive conceptualization, defiled by non-real pervasive conceptualization. Therefore, the mind and mental factors appear as the three entities of the object. These three entities are the mind and mental factors appearing as the three skandhas. What are the three? They are mind, intellect, and consciousness. Here, those who say there are eight consciousness aggregates believe that the mind is the Alaya consciousness, the intellect is the afflicted intellect, and the consciousness is the six consciousnesses. Those who say there is only one believe that the nature of consciousness is one. It is only because of the difference of causes and conditions that coarse and subtle differences arise. For example, the nature of the sea is one, with the characteristics of being moist, soft, and immovable. Because of its own proximate cause, it always shakes slightly, and because of external causes, it shakes with the size and amount of waves. Similarly, consciousness also has the characteristics of knowing and perceiving, and abiding in the nature of having various abilities, which is called mind. Because of its own proximate cause, it always clings to the nature of self, which is called intellect. It is through the door of objects and senses.

Regarding the various gross and subtle phenomena that manifest, it is called "consciousness." In short, it refers to the appearance of three realms due to the influence of the three skandhas. Among them, the appearance as the realm of mind is as follows: It is said, "When various formations accumulate habitual tendencies, and whichever habit's power increases, the mind itself appears similar to the realm and the body, appearing as if filled with bones." This explains that various consciousnesses, through the operation of various formations, accumulate the power of habitual tendencies in the mind. When the mind itself becomes powerful, it appears as the external realm and the body, including the senses. This is a rootless illusion, like the hair seen by someone with blurred vision, the sound of drums of the king's army, and the skeletons seen by those who meditate on impurity. It appears without an external basis, but due to internal causes. The second entity of the realm is: It is said, "There is no self that clings to the continuum of accumulated habitual tendencies, arising from the mind as a condition." This explains that the mind, which clings to the continuum of the mind with habitual tendencies and considers itself as "I," is the mind. Because it clings to the self as if the mind were without self, it distinguishes between self and other, like the two tongues of a snake. This is an illusion with a basis, like seeing a wheel from sparks and a snake from a rope. It appears as self by clinging to the mind. The third entity of the realm is: It is said, "Obscured by the power of formations, not seeing the subtle, from that arises consciousness." This explains that consciousness, which arises from the mind, is obscured by the arising of formations. Because the subtle aspects of formations that appear as the realm of mind and sentient beings are not understood, attachment to various things arises. This is an illusion associated with a basis that is not truly real. For example, not knowing it is a mirage and clinging to water, or while engaging in illusory games, due to the disturbance of other causes, when strong attachment and aversion arise, seeing the illusory game one has made appear as a man or woman, thereby clinging to things and generating attachment and aversion. These three illusions are also causes for each other.
