While reciting, a close attendant went to him and said: Child, why are you crying? I am hungry and thirsty, and when I went to find food, there was a snake in the rice. The drink has turned into blood, which is terrifying and disgusting, and I am hungry and thirsty but cannot eat, so I am crying. Then, the close attendant thought, if this young man has no ability to receive teachings at all, he would say to him: Child, don't cry, I will take the snake away, take the blood away, and provide you with food and drink without defilement. After saying that, he took away the rope and the jewel, and gave him food and drink. The young man thought, this close attendant has taken away the defilement and given me food and drink without defilement, and thinking like this, he was liberated from the bondage of suffering. If that young man had a little ability to receive teachings, he would say: Where is the snake here? This is clearly the rope you put down. Where is the blood here? This is clearly the light of the jewel you put down. Once he said that, the young man understood that the food and drink were originally without defilement, and thus he was liberated from the bondage. Similarly, all dharmas are like illusions, but sentient beings do not understand this principle, because they are attached to reality, so it appears that they are bound by afflictions and experience suffering. Just like this, they are attached to things that are merely illusions as if they were real. Furthermore, they are attached to characteristics. Furthermore, attachment arises, and all kinds of afflictions arise. Influenced by this, they create all kinds of karma. Influenced by this, this sole aggregate of suffering appears. Because of the appearance, attachment to reality arises again, and so on, just like before. It is also said: If this is the case, then the nature of afflictions, karma, and suffering, appearing as cause and effect, is this itself the nature of all things? Is that what exists as substance as well? Just like this, for things that appear as real, do not seek other entities. Do not seek other parts of the entity. Do not seek other parts of the qualities. Do not seek other parts of the basis. If merely calling the appearing characteristics as nature, then it can only be called that, it can only be tolerated. So, what does it mean to seek other entities? For example, seeing a piece of blue cloth.

Now, besides the mere appearance of blue as consciousness, it is like saying that there are other things to be known as entities that are composed of the great elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, that have their own characteristics, are capable of action, and exist as substances. So, from the aspect of the entity, what is it that proves the other part? It is like saying, "This appearance is only the blue of the cloth, but there are other blue parts such as lapis lazuli, indranila, leaves, and so on. And this cloth itself only appears as the part that is not covered by a veil. The blue part of the covered parts is not seen, and there are other things to be known." So, from the aspect of qualities, what is it that proves the other part? It is like saying, "This is only seeing the color and shape of the cloth, but there are other things to be known, such as its type, cause, origin, manufacture, weight, softness, roughness, function, and value." So, what is it that proves the other basis? For example, when a blue leaf is mistaken for a blue cloth, it is like saying, "This appears like a blue cloth, but its entity is a blue leaf, and there are other things to be known." In this way, these methods of proving other characteristics arise from the belief that the self of a person and the self of phenomena are real. Among them, the two that prove the other part of the entity and the other part of the qualities arise from the belief that the self of a person is real. The two that prove the other entity and the other basis arise from the belief that the self of phenomena is real. In this way, those who believe that the self of a person is real, when observing a cloth, will exclude dissimilar things such as vases, and will also exclude similar things such as a second cloth, and thus establish the nature of the cloth as one entity. They believe that color and touch, etc., are all differences in the qualities of that nature, so even if one quality part of one nature is seen, there will be other parts that are not seen. Other vases, etc., and other second cloths, etc., are also each different natures, so the blue that exists on them is also different from the blue of the cl
