Moreover, any dharma, when its cause ceases, its effect will also cease. This is said by the great śrāmaṇa, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, and there is no one else in the world, including the gods, who would say this. But it is not said that the continuity of cause and effect will never be reversed. In other sutras explaining the meaning of dependent origination, it is also said: How the world arises with karma and afflictions as causes, the teacher also knows how to make karma and afflictions cease, and explains it well. Where the suffering of birth, old age, and decay no longer exists, the teacher who proclaims the victory of liberation knows and proclaims it himself. The meaning of what is said is also the same. Bhikshus, this exists, therefore that exists; this arises, therefore that arises, such as ignorance conditions action, and so on, until the aggregates of samsara arise. This ceases, therefore that ceases; ignorance ceases, therefore action ceases, and so on, until the aggregates of samsara cease. The meaning of what is said is also the same, but it is not said that the continuity of cause and effect will never be cut off. Cutting off the two extremes is also because there is no transference of the person, thereby cutting off the extreme of permanence. It is said like this: The flame of a lamp, a mirror, crystal, flint, seed, sour taste, and sound, the wise should know that the continuous connection of aggregates is also non-transferring. It is said like this. Merely arising from cause and condition cuts off the extreme of annihilation. It is said like this: For extremely subtle things, who would think that it is annihilated? The unskillful do not see the meaning of arising from conditions. It is said like this. But it is not said that the continuity of cause and effect will never be cut off, therefore the extreme of annihilation is cut off. What appears to the pure mundane wisdom, what appears to the pure mundane wisdom of the Bodhisattvas, is still due to the fact that the habitual tendencies of the two graspers have not been exhausted. As for the Tathagatas, whether they possess pure mundane wisdom or not, there are other things to be examined. Therefore, a person who holds such a tenet is like a man who drinks crow semen.

Thus. When walking on the path of establishing the Great Way, seeing that the foundation of the path has changed slightly, and suspecting that there is danger, one avoids the edge of the path, just like falling into a thicket. As the Dharma spoken by the Bhagavan, the law of dependent origination, if there are causes and conditions, then results will arise, and if causes and conditions cease, then results will cease. Liberation by abandoning the two extremes is entering the Great Way. Thus, if the stream of cause and effect is cut off, there is a fear of falling into the view of annihilation, so clinging to the extreme of permanence, it is like falling into the thicket of the view of substantiality. Furthermore, others refute that the completely defiled cause and effect, the impure realm of activity, if the cessation of cause leads to the cessation of effect is true, then the fully ripened body accomplished from the immeasurable accumulation of merit and wisdom, and the adornment of the completely pure realm, and the perfect manifestation of the inexhaustible wheel of adornment of body, speech, and mind, will not change. To this, it should be said that it is true that the accumulation of merit and wisdom is the cause and condition for holding and manifesting the complete purity of body and realm of activity, but it is not the cause of the entity of manifestation. How is it? To this, for the time being, the accumulation of merit, at the time when there is a basis for harmful actions of negative karma, the actions of merit also appear to be beneficial. For example, if there is a white cloth as a base, dirt can also harm it, washing can also remove it, and good paint can also enhance it, but if there is no base, it is not like that. Thus, if the elements of earth, water, and season are complete, various seeds will produce their respective fruits, but if only water is absent, they cannot grow. Similarly, on the ground with the habitual imprints of the two graspers, if it is moistened with the moisture of craving, then all the seeds of karma will grow, but if only the moisture of craving is separated, then the seeds of karma will not grow. Thus, although the noble Arhats abide on the ground with objects, because they are separated from the moisture of craving, the aspects of meritorious actions...
