Regarding this, there is nothing else to be proven, it is simply called a dream, a dream. So, what is the characteristic of an image? Like this, when mirrors and other things, and the clear images of the original form and face, etc., are nearby, the image will appear. When it first appears, it does not come from anywhere. At the time of appearance, because there is no great element as a basis, there is no characteristic at all. When a certain condition is not complete and disappears, becoming invisible, it does not go anywhere either. In short, it is said that because the conditions are not complete, it does not become the object of the senses, it just disappears. Its momentary continuity is neither cut off nor returned, and there is no such establishment. Appearance and non-appearance are both undifferentiated, without characteristics, but in fact have the same characteristic. However, as long as the conditions are close, it will continue to appear, and only the characteristic of appearance is fully possessed. Regarding this, there is nothing else to be proven, it is simply called an image, an image (this sentence is added in the Mug Sang edition, not in the Dzogchen woodblock edition). So, what is the characteristic of an emanation? Like this, whether it is an emanation of wisdom, or an emanation of samadhi, or not these, emanations accomplished through vidya-mantras, etc. For example, if you bless white flowers with mantras and scatter them in the sky, thousands of Tathagatas and others will appear to be dwelling in the sky. Similarly, if you bless yellow flowers with mantras and scatter them, many Arhats will appear. If you bless red flowers with mantras and scatter them, many forms of gods will appear. If you bless blue flowers with mantras and scatter them, many yakshas and rakshasas will appear. When it first appears, it does not come from anywhere. At the time of appearance, because it is an emanation, there is no characteristic at all. When the emanation is withdrawn, it will disappear and become invisible. At that time, it does not go anywhere either. In short, it is said that because of the conditions of the emanation being withdrawn, it does not become the object of the senses, it just disappears. Its momentary continuity is neither cut off nor returned, and there is no such establishment. Appearance and non-appearance

The two are inseparable, without characteristics, and with a single characteristic. However, as long as the conditions are present, the appearance can be perceived. The characteristic of mere appearance is also complete, because there is nothing else to be established in this regard, so it is called manifestation, manifestation. Similarly, all these appearances of various internal and external objects, as long as the power of the habitual tendencies of grasping and apprehending remains, the appearance of various objects will occur. When it first arises, it does not come from anywhere. Even at the time of appearance, it is because of the power of habitual tendencies that it appears, therefore, there is no characteristic whatsoever. When the habitual tendencies of both grasping and apprehending are exhausted, they will cease and become invisible. At that time, it will not go anywhere. No one would say that it merely ceases and does not turn into the realm of non-conceptual wisdom that is free from the conceptualizations of grasping and apprehending. The momentary continuum of these appearances is neither cut off nor reversed, and there is no such establishment. Appearance and non-appearance are inseparable, without characteristics, and with a single characteristic. However, as long as the conditions are present, the appearance can be perceived. The characteristic of mere appearance is complete, because there is nothing else to be established in this regard. Therefore, all phenomena are like illusions, like mirages, like dreams, like reflections, like manifestations. Therefore, since the characteristic of all things is like this, the characteristic of substance cannot be found in afflictions that have the characteristic of extreme delusion. In this way, these arguments show that afflictions do not have a substance to be abandoned. This harm to those schools that believe that afflictions have a substance to be abandoned is not harm caused by contradicting other schools. Rather, it is a statement of seeing how each school itself destroys its own school. For example, when a forest suffers wind damage, trees become the shelter of trees and do not cause great damage. When a forest suffers fire damage, the trees burn.
