It is merely distinguishing between the ground and the afflictions. In reality, all wisdom is one, which is the wisdom that realizes the selflessness of all phenomena. All afflictions are also one, which is the conceptual thought that is deluded about the self. Therefore, wisdom that focuses on individuals cannot eliminate afflictions, but wisdom that focuses on phenomena can eliminate afflictions through the power of cutting off inverted elaborations, but it cannot eliminate them through the aspect of viewing things as real. If the Shravakas abide in a ground with characteristics and are not separated from the view of reality, then how can they eliminate afflictions and attain enlightenment? To this, it will be taught as follows: Shravakas, from their own tenets, believe that afflictions are exhausted and the unconditioned is attained. However, in the Mahayana, the substance of afflictions is exhausted, but the latent tendencies are not exhausted (latent tendencies also belong to the category of aggregates). The being who has not transcended the aggregates of fully ripened karma, having abandoned all the bonds in the three realms, is considered to be the one who has blocked the life of sentient beings by karma. As it is said in the Manifestation of the Magical Net of Vairocana: "Those of inferior vehicles who have abandoned skillful means and wisdom and are attached to external objects, how can they attain unsurpassed enlightenment?" As an answer to this, two types of enlightenment are taught: with remainder and without remainder. The one with remainder is the nature of the aggregates, the afflictions have been completely burned. The one without remainder is without latent imprints, it is pure and stainless like the sky. The Victorious Ones have taught these two types of enlightenment in this way. It should be understood in this way. Furthermore, enlightenment is also said to be knowing exhaustion and non-arising. What is distinguished by the unconditioned is the noble being. If it is also said that enlightenment is taught in three ways, then what is it that is known to be exhausted and not arising? To this, it will be said as follows: Having abandoned all the afflictions that bind in the three realms, one is an Arhat. Whatever it may be, knowing that all those phenomena that arise are phenomena of cessation, is self-enlightenment. Having abandoned all the afflictions that connect latent tendencies, one is unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment.

bo. It is like that which was said. Enough of too much elaboration. Let us enter the text itself. Thus, by cultivating the antidotes through the stages of the path of seeing and meditation, and by gradually abandoning the afflictions to be abandoned, what result is obtained? This is what is said: Four kinds of results are obtained. That is, stream-enterer, once-returner, non-returner, and arhat. Among them, having abandoned all that is to be abandoned by seeing in the afflictions of the three realms, and also from those to be abandoned by meditation, from the afflictions of the desire realm divided into nine grades of great, medium, and small, liberation from the third or fourth grade onwards is stream-entry, because one has entered the stream of the path to the city of nirvana, hence it is called that. The exhaustion of the sixth grade is once-returner, because a small part remains, one takes rebirth again in the gods and humans of the desire realm. Abandoning the ninth grade is non-returner, because one does not take rebirth again in the desire realm. Even abandoning the smallest of the small afflictions of the peak of existence is arhat. The word Arhat (Tibetan: ཨ་རི་ཧ་ཏ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अरिहन्त, Sanskrit Romanization: arihanta, Chinese literal meaning: destroyer of enemies), ari (Tibetan: ཨ་རི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अरि, Sanskrit Romanization: ari, Chinese literal meaning: enemy) means enemy, hanta (Tibetan: ཧ་ཏ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: हन्त, Sanskrit Romanization: hanta, Chinese literal meaning: destroyer) means destroyer, because the afflictions that cause rebirth in the three realms are themselves demons and enemies, having destroyed them, hence it is called that. Another way is called arhan (Tibetan: ཨ་རི་ན་ཧ་ཏ་བ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अर्हन्तव, Sanskrit Romanization: arhantava, Chinese literal meaning: worthy of offering), arha (Tibetan: ཨ་རི་ན་, Sanskrit Devanagari: अर्ह, Sanskrit Romanization: arha, Chinese literal meaning: worthy) means worthy and appropriate, hantava (Tibetan: ཧ་ཏ་བ་, Sanskrit Devanagari: हन्तव, Sanskrit Romanization: hantava, Chinese literal meaning: offering) is the word for offering, because to the one who has exhausted the craving of the three realms, all those with craving should make offerings, so it is also explained as worthy of offering. What is called self-awakened is the characteristic of nirvana, the nature of the result of the self-awakened one, the characteristic of the unconditioned. The others are as shown above. Also, here the view is distinguished from the hearers by realizing that the form aggregate and one aspect of the dharma realm are selfless. It is said that, among them, from the five aggregates, one realizes that the form aggregate is selfless; from the twelve sources and the eighteen realms, the ten material sources and the ten realms, and one aspect of the dharma source and the dharma realm, that is, non-manifesting form, in short, the dharmas included in the form aggregate.
