As it is said. Thus, if measured by the intellect related to the Agamas and instructions, then all that is encompassed by pure and impure bodies, places, and realms of activity, encompassed by the expanse of the sky, and encompassed by beginningless and endless time, is also a manifestation of a single moment of arising and ceasing of the Alaya-vijñana of a single person. That single one is also merely appearing as such, and there is no complete establishment of its own nature. The Alaya-vijñana is the place of all seeds, and the appearance of Alaya is the place of all elements, but in terms of the sense objects, it appears as separate elements, appears as cause and effect, appears as separate occasions, and in the realm of the consciousness of the mind, everything appears to be able to be accommodated. For example, the image of gold, born from the earth, and the powder of many well-mixed substances such as tongue gold and Jambu river gold, transformed into the image of mercury, with good and bad qualities. Thus, the mercury born from coal, as well as that born from water, that born from medicine, and that which appears as gold, etc., when combined, become like a ball of fresh butter, but in the realm of the senses of the eye and body, etc., it does not appear as various elements, but appears as one nature. In the realm of the consciousness of the mind, everything can be accommodated in the mind as the nature abides. Among them, some deluded individuals hold it to be a ball of butter and grease, some hold it to be a ball of silver, some hold it to be a ball of mercury, and others see that it turns into gold when exposed to fire at some time, and then hold it to be the cause of gold. The wise hold it to be a variety of elements, dependent on various closely abiding conditions, capable of appearing as a nature similar to whatever condition it encounters. Thus, if that ball of various elements has the condition of cold, then even if it remains for a long time, even until the end of the kalpa, it will remain like a ball of fresh butter. If it is slightly warmed by the touch of fire, it will remain in the color of copper, wood, and brass.

If it is excessively burned, it remains in the nature of ordinary gold. If it is very excessively burned, it remains in the nature of Jambu River gold. From then on, whether it encounters the cause of heat or the cause of cold, it will not appear to change its nature. Similarly, the alaya-consciousness is the seed of all, and the appearance of the alaya is the nature of all, yet, just as the conditions that are close to the objects of the senses, it appears in different times and circumstances in pure, impure, and extremely pure bodies, places, and realms of experience. The mind-consciousness can enter into both appearance and non-appearance. Therefore, confused beings take it as the basis for clinging to things such as self and clinging to various dharmas. Because of its influence, some people cling to these five aggregates as the nature of karmic ripening, as the dharma of suffering, just as they cling to a lump of mercury. Some people think that even these five aggregates can be the cause of the bodies and realms of experience of those who dwell in pure lands being completely pure. This is like clinging to that lump as the cause of gold. The wise ones think that although that lump does not appear to be gold itself, it is not separate from the nature of gold. Although it appears as mercury, the gold has not been transformed into mercury. Although it is not without the nature of mercury, the nature of mercury is unstable, easily changes, and therefore is also easily exhausted. The nature of gold is more stable than that, difficult to change, will not become bad again, and is difficult to exhaust even when the fire of the eon burns. Similarly, impure appearances are unstable, of a very deceptive nature, and even for past and future lives, appearances are not difficult to change. Pure appearances, from the time they are able to freely enjoy pure bodies and realms of experience, will not again enjoy impure ones. Afterwards, the field becomes very pure, it will not become the cause of producing suffering, but will become the cause of producing happiness and liberation. Therefore, it will transform in this way: the collection of various realms
