Because I cling to the different characteristics of the conditioned aggregates, the distinctions of karma appear as eight, but in essence, they are not multiple. Therefore, in the first moment of consciousness, the body and all phenomena exist. Because of attachment to this, the subsequent moment arises and appears. Thus it is said. Similarly, in the same text, it says: "Because it has no direction, the infinite realms are my body. Although my body clearly appears as infinite realms and the bodies of beings, mind and habitual tendencies are neither one nor different, and are extremely difficult to examine." Thus it is said. Therefore, all consciousnesses are of one kind, namely, the kind of the ālaya-vijñāna. The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra says: "Mahāmati, if all consciousnesses were not of one kind, then they would not arise from the cause of the ālaya-vijñāna." Thus it is said. Therefore, all consciousnesses in which the object and aspect are completely cut off are not separate from the kind of ālaya-vijñāna. Therefore, all appearances in which the object is completely cut off are also not separate from the appearance of the ālaya-vijñāna in which the object and aspect are not completely cut off. All things that appear to be completely cut off from direction and time are like the reflection in a mirror appearing to be completely cut off from the direction of the object, and like the time in a dream appearing to be completely cut off from before and after. Therefore, the meaning here is that the appearance of the ālaya-vijñāna that transforms into a human being is not only the object directly perceived by one's own senses, but also the place of hell beings, as well as all the realms of activity of pretas, animals, gods, and so on, are also its appearance. Thus it is established. When this reasoning becomes firm, there is no way to deny that all appearances as pure, impure, and extremely pure bodies, places, and realms of activity are the appearance of a single moment of the ālaya-vijñāna. If it is not established, then all previous reasoning will collapse in common. The scripture also says: "All pure and impure realms are the nature of the body of the ālaya-vijñāna, because in one moment of the ālaya-vijñāna, there exist the body with the senses and all phenomena without exception."
