They should be distinguished (explained) in their respective languages. Why do the great lords reveal mudras in the tantras? It is because even the Buddhas emphasize the mudras more in accomplishing the deeds of the Buddha. Although these two, mantra and mudra, are also taught as encompassing one another, there is a slight difference. Mudra emphasizes the symbolic marks of form, while secret mantra emphasizes the true words of speech. For both of these, it is taught that various types of examination can be applied according to the authority of the scriptures and the individual's conceptualizations. The first of these is: "This is a distinction between the ripened body and speech." Such an examination is possible. Similarly, the second is: "These are the marks and symbols of the body, speech, and mind of the Victorious Ones." Such an examination is possible. The third is: "This mark itself has the power to attain actions and accomplishments." It should be said thus. The fourth is: "On this very thing, the magical display of the Tathagata's blessings and the appearance due to the power of karma are mixed and appear." It should be said thus. The fifth is: "This very mark, endowed with blessings, is regarded by those with vows as the deity itself." It should be said thus. The sixth is: "The great wisdom of the Victorious Ones themselves, through the power of compassion and aspiration, is blessed and transformed into a mark, just as the mind itself appears as objects and bodies due to the power of habitual tendencies." Such an examination is possible. It should be known that the sixth of these methods is the most excellent. Samadhi, in the context of mantra, refers to meditating on the yoga of the deity, which is the pure realm of dharma, the non-inverted wisdom of meaning, and the form body that appears due to these, along with its parts, which are referred to as "deity." The characteristic of focusing the mind on such a meaning is samadhi. Therefore, it is acceptable to focus the mind on the meaning without marks, or to focus on the meaning with marks. It is said to be the main cause for accomplishing actions and attainments. Yoga with marks is also meaningful.

In short, it is said that the yoga of blessing, the yoga of complete analysis, and the yoga of perfection are combined into three. These three are also all contained in a yoga with the same deity, but the objects of focus differ according to the ultimate views of each tantra. Among them, the yoga of blessing is: if the suchness of the self is blessed and embraced by the suchness of the deity, it will transform like applying alchemical medicine to iron. The yoga of complete analysis is: just as statues are made from well-melted gold, etc., it is believed that the form body arises from the purified bodhicitta. The yoga of perfection is: just as images appear in clear water without effort, the yogi who understands the purity of self-nature perfectly manifests in an instant of samadhi. It should be known that these three yogas encompass all mantras. The foundation here also encompasses the three characteristic vehicles, as it is said in the *Vairochana Mayajala Tantra*: "First is the blessing of vows, then the practice of complete analysis yoga, Madhyamaka should accomplish perfection, this is the ritual of yoga." Thus it is said. Among them, the first sentence refers to the first doctrine because it enters the treatises, which is the doctrine of the Shravaka vehicle. Corresponding to this is the yoga of blessing. How does it correspond? Here, the suchness of the self refers to the five aggregates not distinguished by conceptual thought. Suchness refers to the emptiness of the self and what belongs to the self, which are completely analyzed by non-Buddhists. It cannot be slandered that there are no phenomena such as the five aggregates, elements, and sense bases, this is the suchness of the self. This is the basis that can be blessed, and what blesses it is the substance of the deity. That is, understanding the purity of dharmata, non-conceptual wisdom, wisdom with conceptual thought, and deities such as sound, letters, and forms. Here, because the thought of external forms is not abandoned, it is in accordance with the first doctrine, the Shravaka vehicle. Therefore, this is a method of practicing deity yoga that is taught for the sake of taming individuals.
