It is called. Because, the four branches of recitation and so on are also branches of the method for accomplishing these tasks. Therefore, no matter which of those things is taken as the main one, there is no better method than these four branches of recitation and so on, because all tasks are complete with these. Among them, the meaning of recitation is generally explained as having wisdom and assistance. For example, the word "mantra" in Sanskrit is "manā āvābodana", which means awakening and understanding, explained from the root of the word. Tra means protection, referring to becoming protection and assistance. Therefore, in general, it refers to the combination of method and wisdom, or to having fruit, which is recognized in most treatises. What is recognized in each treatise is that the meaning of non-proliferation is also called secret recitation. For example, in the Sutra of the Manifest Enlightenment of Vairochana, it is said: "The meaning of non-proliferation, the essence of secret recitation, in various ways...", and so on, widely explained like this. The wisdom of non-duality is also said to be secret recitation. As the sutra says: "This non-dual wisdom, the Buddha said is recitation." And as other sutras say: "If the non-dual mind protects, even so it is recitation." Like this, through these ways, because it is wisdom protection, it is said to be wisdom protection. The Root Tantra of Glorious Guhyasamaja says that it is mind protection, so it is said to be wisdom protection. For example, when explaining the practice of secret recitation, it says: "Whatever arises dependently, the minds of objects and senses, that is said to be the meaning of Man, Tra is called the meaning of protection, liberation from worldly conduct, all the vows that are proclaimed, the protecting vajras all proclaim, it is shown as the practice of recitation." Like this. The bodies of the Buddhas, which have become symbols of such meaning, are also called recitation. As the sutra says: "All recitations are also on that body, offer wonderful tormas, excrement, urine, meat, grain, oil, and sandalwood arising from the mind, with that semen all recitations, it is always said to be satisfied." Like this. The letters such as Om (藏文:ཨོཾ,梵文天城体:ओम्,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) and Hum (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) that become the gateways to these

Mantric words, collections of scriptures, and ritual methods such as fire offerings are also called mantras. Similarly, wisdom and dharanis should also be included: the nature of wisdom and awareness is the knowledge-mantra (vidyā-mantra), and the nature of mindfulness and wisdom is the dharani-mantra. The symbols of these two are the forms and images that transform into goddesses. The gateway should be understood as before. Starting from such a general definition, here, when explaining the four branches, the characteristic of verbal expression is called mantra. For example, it is said in the Compendium of Principles: "It is not to be transcended, difficult to distinguish, and secret; because it is spoken for the sake of secret accomplishment, therefore it is called mantra." This is like the secret words recited for the sake of accomplishing secret siddhis, which neither gods nor obstacles can recite, and which are the indivisible characteristic seals, secretly praised and spoken in the mouth, and therefore called secret mantras. The function of this mantra is to generate continuity in all samadhis with and without characteristics, to act as the seed and condition for all phenomenal manifestations of all deities, to accomplish and obtain all desired meanings that include common and supreme siddhis, and to please the deities by becoming the Dharma seal. Therefore, because it possesses such power, it accomplishes all meanings like a wish-fulfilling jewel, and the deities themselves manifest as the form of secret mantras and bless them. It is also known as such. For such cases, there are other investigations, which will be explained in detail in the chapter on mudras. What is called a mudra is a symbol that represents the body, speech, and mind of great beings. Through it, the meaning of the formless, and the body, speech, and mind of the great beings themselves are also called mudras. The mudra as a symbol possesses four characteristics of symbolism: being a symbol of great beings, being something that cannot be transcended or destroyed by anything, being something that only the Dharma king possesses, and not being common.
