Now, let's begin the explanation. The five perfections are: the teacher, the place, the retinue, the time, and the tantra. Each of these has its own complete qualities, or generally speaking, all the causes and conditions are complete, hence they are called perfections. These have two aspects: common and uncommon. The common aspect is: Thus I have heard, at one time, the teacher so-and-so, at the place so-and-so, the retinue so-and-so and so-and-so were residing, at that time it was heard. This is how it is connected. But in this tantra, the uncommon beginning is explained. Among these, the uncommon teacher is: it is intended to explain the glorious Samantabhadra, the master of the body, speech, and mind vajra of all the Tathagatas of the ten directions and four times, the nature of all dharmas. It is not intended to explain a single form body held by the wisdom continuum of a person's continuum, one who has manifestly and completely attained Buddhahood. The uncommon place is: it is intended to regard the Akaniṣṭha realm, which is without end or center, all the palaces of the Dharmadhatu, whose essence is the essence of Bodhi, as the place. It is not intended to regard a pure or impure realm, divided by direction, as the place. The uncommon retinue is: it is intended to regard the great wisdom, the self-manifesting illusion, the nature of which is inseparable from defiled and undefiled dharmas, anyone other than the great Bodhi, as the retinue. It is not like regarding one's own pure continuum or those gathered by faith, etc., as the retinue. The uncommon time is: it is abiding in the realm of the equality of the four times, in the naturally abundant adornment of body, speech, and mind. It is not divided by divisions of time such as moments, or by divisions of time such as thought, non-thought, or beyond thought. The uncommon perfection of the tantra's teaching is: it teaches that all dharmas included in samsara and nirvana are, from the very beginning, inseparable and of the nature of manifest and complete enlightenment. It does not rely on the power of lineage and spiritual friends, looking to the time when the result arises from the cause being accomplished. These are also related to "at the time of such speaking."

It should be known from what has been said. The cause for the arising of the tantras is the instigation of questioning, which is of two kinds: common and uncommon. Among these, the common is that even when the teacher instigates questioning as it arises from the general tantras and sutras, he encourages it through means such as emitting rays of light, smiling, and extending the tongue, as well as through special statements to others. Even when the retinue instigates questioning, they do so through the preparation of requests and the words of the requests. The uncommon is that, in this context, all phenomena are inherently the nature of the great mandala, the meaning of enlightenment in the great place of the inexhaustible wheel of adornment. For the meaning that is clear to the single Buddha's intention, in a manner of amazement and wonder, the Tathagata himself instigates questioning to the Tathagata himself in the manner of special statements. This is explained in two ways: through the greatness of manifest enlightenment by the nature of the body and wisdom emanation, and through the greatness of enlightenment in the dharmadhatu, as it is spontaneously accomplished in the state of signlessness, with Samantabhadra instigating questioning and Samantabhadri instigating questioning. The objects to be fully known are, in general, the objects to be taught by all the tantras, which are condensed into nine aspects: mandala, samaya, sadhana, empowerment, and activity, which are the five bases; mantra, mudra, samadhi, and puja, which are the four limbs. Among these, the object to which the term mandala applies, although there are many depending on the occasion, in this context of explaining the meaning of the tantra, refers to the palace of the King of Dharma, the Buddha Bhagavan, together with his retinue. Why is it called "mandala"? It is called Mandala (Sanskrit Devanagari: मण्डल, Sanskrit Romanization: maṇḍala, Chinese literal meaning: altar). Mandala (Sanskrit Devanagari: मण्डल, Sanskrit Romanization: maṇḍala, Chinese literal meaning: altar) is like the essence of the core or the center. "La" means to take and hold, which is the meaning of the base. Therefore, in order to accomplish the kingdom of Dharma, because the essence becomes the base, it is called mandala because it takes the essence. Another explanation is that, connecting it literally, it means completely round and all-encompassing, like that.
