Just as reeds grow in the thicket of speculative logic, so too do all six realms of beings, such as humans being reborn as humans, each continuing their own birth-objects. To symbolize the destruction of the mountain of ignorance and wrong views that clings to the self and the wise as eternally unchanging, the Vajra empowerment is bestowed by the wisdom Vajra. Destroying the objects of clinging to self and characteristics, the root of wisdom realizing selflessness grows, and please believe that you have received the empowerment to rely on the path of renunciation. Hūṃ (Tibetan, Devanagari: हुं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ)! Wisdom Vajra, etc. Place the Vajra on the crown of the head. Through these, having received the empowerment to dispel the extremes of eternalism and nihilism, and thus possessing the thought of renunciation, the gate to enter the true path, the vehicle of enlightenment, is the giving of the vows of refuge in the Three Jewels. As the scripture says, "Thus, not understanding, wrong views, etc., upon entering, give the vows of refuge." As it is said, first, in order to request the vows of refuge, which are the foundation of the Buddhist path, please visualize as follows: In the sky in front, a rainbow of jewels, clouds, and rays of light intertwine, and in the center, adorned with many offerings, the objects of refuge, such as the Buddhas, Dharma, and Sangha of the Great and Small Vehicles, are actually present. With unwavering faith and a strong desire to know what you are doing, repeat after me this refuge formula. Namo (Tibetan, Devanagari: नमः, Romanized Sanskrit: namaḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: Homage)! I and the infinite, etc., recite three times. In this way, you have well received the vows of refuge. From now on, please abide by the precepts that conform to what should be done and what should be avoided, and always strive to take refuge. Third, in order to enter the Hearer Vehicle, the Four Noble Truths empowerment is bestowed: the bell symbolizing the breaking of the chains of the Truth of Suffering and leading to the place of peace; the alms bowl for binding all defilements of the Truth of Origin into the undefiled; the scripture empowering the practice of the instructions of the Truth of the Path; and the three Dharma robes that protect from the suffering of afflictions of the Truth of Cessation. By entrusting these into your hands, the realization of the Four Noble Truths is absorbed into your mind, and all that should be abandoned on the Hearer's own path is abandoned, and all that should be attained is

May perfect qualities arise in your continuum! Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽)! Śrāvaka's Four Noble Truths, etc. Having thus empowered, the view of the Śrāvakas realizes emptiness up to the point of indivisible particles of perceived objects. In terms of conduct, one is empowered to learn all the precepts of discipline that restrain misdeeds. By knowing the truths of suffering and its origin, and by practicing the path truth, knowing that phenomena such as aggregates are not established by their own characteristics in order to abandon them, the ability to manifest the result of the samādhi of the cessation truth, which is utterly peaceful, is placed in the continuum. Fourth, in order to enter the vehicle of the Pratyekabuddhas, the empowerment of dependent origination is performed: Thus, the root of saṃsāra is ignorance. From this, actions are formed by grasping at self and other. From this arises consciousness, which grasps at external objects individually. From this arise name and form, which distinguish individual characteristics. From this arise the six sense bases, which engage with the objects of the six aggregates. From this arises contact, which is the coming together of mutual elements. From this arises feeling, which is the experience of pleasure, pain, and neutrality. From this arises craving, which is the desire to obtain pleasure and the desire to eliminate pain. From this arises grasping, which engages in that activity and manifests its meaning. From this arises existence, which is the cause of various kinds of pleasure and pain. From this arises birth, which is the result of that. Finally, the complete maturation of that result is old age and death. Having understood the meaning of wandering in the three realms by relying on the wheel of twelve dependent originations, one cultivates and meditates on the twelve dependent originations in forward and reverse order with the wisdom that realizes selflessness, thereby comprehending the meaning of cause, condition, and dependent origination. Thus, one abandons all that is to be abandoned on the path of the Pratyekabuddhas. May perfect qualities of all that is to be attained arise in your continuum! Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Chinese literal meaning: 吽)! Pratyekabuddha dependent origination, etc., hand over the drawing of the twelve dependent originations. Having thus empowered, the view of the Pratyekabuddhas realizes that all phenomena encompassed by the objects of grasping are emptiness. The grasping consciousness, with the edge of an indivisible moment, views the meaning of selflessness. In terms of conduct, one abandons distraction and the labor of benefiting others, and engages in accomplishing one's own peace like a rhinoceros and a parrot. By meditating on the twelve dependent originations in forward and reverse order, the seed of ignorance, which is to be abandoned, is cut off, and the ability to remain in equipoise in the utterly peaceful realm of reality is placed in the continuum.
