Not speaking untruths, and the supreme bodhicitta not straying from the mudra of union, these two are the samaya of vajra mind. Especially, since all beings are primordially self-nature pure, therefore uniting with the body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas is the samaya of great equality. One should realize and familiarize oneself with this through wisdom and samadhi, because all siddhis arise from this, therefore one should strive. The branch samayas are five sets of five. The five to be known: the aggregates, elements, etc., the groups of five conceptualizations, are primordially the five families, father-mother, etc., the mandala of body and wisdom, thus realizing them, is the samaya of view. The five not to be abandoned: if the five poisons are seized by skillful means, they will become companions on the path, and should not be abandoned. The hidden meaning is that all dharmas are perfected in equality, therefore in the view there is no partiality, and in conduct there is no dividing by acceptance and rejection, which is ignorance; the desire of great compassion that does not fixate on objects; the hatred that destroys conceptual thought with self-awareness wisdom; the pride that does not place the king of the view of union in a low place; the jealousy that does not contain the clinging thoughts of duality in the expanse of equality, these are not abandoned through the union of realization and familiarization. The five to be practiced: killing, not giving, unchaste conduct, lying, and harsh speech, etc., if they transform into benefiting others, such as liberating the ten directions, then they should be practiced. The hidden meaning is that life is wind, which is stopped by means such as the vase, or the life of grasping and fixation thoughts is cut off by the self-awareness wisdom; the consort's semen or the great bliss wisdom is taken without anyone giving it; self-awareness itself is the object, relying on the great mudra and union to practice melting bliss unchanging, this is practicing desire; the lie of liberating beings from the ignorance of samsara; realizing all sounds as unspeakable, therefore communicating symbols without concealment, and so forth, are the harsh words. The five to be accepted: white and red bodhicitta, feces, urine, the essence of great meat, etc., are relied upon for the need to purify the conceptual thoughts of purity and impurity, etc. The hidden meaning is that the essence of the five aggregates is bound without leakage, therefore they should be accepted. The five to be accomplished: are the same five samayas to be known.

To properly accomplish in one's own mind-stream through the practice of understanding and familiarization is the samaya of meditation. The three intermediate ones, outwardly, are primarily the samaya of conduct. The three root samayas and the twenty-five branches combined are known as the twenty-eight samayas, which are famous in the common language of the Mahā (Sanskrit: Mahā, literally meaning: Great). The additional samayas are: the samayas that a person abiding in the common and special samayas should protect and especially rely on during practices and so on. For example, not destroying the throne of the king of beasts, and so on, are twenty. If the meaning indicated by symbols is explained in an easy-to-understand way, it is: do not harm the body of the Vajra Master and do not disobey the commands. Do not engage with the consort of the Lama. Do not harm the faithful assembly. Do not defile the property of the Three Jewels and the wise, and do not drink intoxicating alcohol. Do not engage with the consort of the Vajra brother. Do not rely on consorts with bad reputations. Do not rely on samaya substances that do not have the proper characteristics. Do not disparage the qualities of the wise. Do not reveal secret teachings to those who are not vessels. Do not abandon consorts who have the proper characteristics and disciples who are vessels. Do not separate from the meaning of bliss and emptiness and the symbols of father and mother. Do not engage in internal strife with Dharma brothers, even in jest. Do not consume leftovers that have been used by others. Do not be arrogant about the Lama's seat. Do not break the boundaries of oneself and others. Do not let meditation fall under the power of agitation and dullness, and do not interrupt recitations and rituals with words. Do not transgress the mudras of empowerment symbols, and do not forget the symbols. Do not disturb the mandala of yogis, and do not perform sorcery. Do not fall away from the Master who is held at the crown of the head, and so on. The methods for protecting these are: the mindfulness of not forgetting the places of permission and prohibition, the discriminating awareness of examining whether one has transgressed the samayas, the carefulness of taking caution seriously, the shame of feeling that one is bad if one has transgressed and refraining based on oneself, the embarrassment of refraining based on others, the fear of seeing the faults of transgression, and the respect of being eager for the benefits, and through these means, striving to protect. As it is said in the Sutra of the Origin of Discipline: If you desire the supreme accomplishment, it is easy to give up your life completely. Even when the time of death arrives, it is easy, Always protect the samayas. So it is said. The method of repairing after transgression is: confess in front of those against whom or with whom one has transgressed.
